Mission Council Spotlight - John S.
Thayer
John moved to Cincinnati in 1966 to join the University
of Cincinnati faculty where he is now Professor of
Chemistry. In 1973, he came to Grace Church for the
first time to attend the funeral of a colleague, Thomas
Cameron, whose death drastically changed his life. As a
result of this, he joined Grace Church and was confirmed in
June of 1973. At the suggestion of Ray Betts (the Church
Rector at the time), he joined the Adult Choir and
subsequently sang in 3 operas, 16 musical theatre
productions, and upwards of 50 choral concerts! In 1982,
he founded the Grace Church Hand Bell Choir; when
that dissolved, he became a handbell soloist. In
the past, John has led morning and evening services of prayer
and even preached a few sermons. Recently, John has
served on Vestry and as Treasurer. In 2006, Grace Church
elected John Senior Warden, the role he currently holds.
He has lived in College Hill since 1976, where his sister
Christine joined him in 1995. His outside interests
include music, writing, and gardening.
In future eGracenotes I will spotlight a member of
the Mission Council, so enjoy their bios and get to know the
leadership of Grace who work very hard to keep the church
alive. -
