Dear Friend,
Summer means a change of pace for many of us...and
for our church. Some things we've done all winter, we'll
stop, as we engage in summertime
activities. You'll see signs of the change in the
articles in this issue of eGraceNotes and on our calendar.

Congregational Meeting This Sunday
There will be a congregational meeting this Sunday, June
1, during the 10:00 am service. The agenda will be to
answer questions about a letter from the Vicar
explaining our current status. Mission Council members will
introduce themselves. A Time and Talent Survey (Worship + 2)
will also be presented and
explained. |
Parish Cookouts Coming in July &
August
The first Sundays of July and August, we will hold a
parish cookout in the Garth. Plan to stay and enjoy a

neighbors. | |
"Bag Lady" Tells
All
Barbara Todd recently volunteered to make cloth shopping
bags for people if they'd make a donation to the Vicar's
Discretionary Fund. The response was literally
overwhelming, as Barbara got more requests than she could
honor.
We asked her how this neat project came about. Her
answer:
My initial thought on the bags quite literally popped
into my head when Ernestein asked on "Earth Day" Sunday
morning if anyone had any suggestions for helping our
planet.
My father, his seamstress and I used to make cloth bags
for the sidewalk sales in O'Bryonville back in the early
1990s. Upon his passing, I inherited his fabric
samples, remnants and sewing machines. My initial
thought was just to do something to help Planet Earth that
also would be a gift to my fellow parishioners.
The following Sunday, knowing that the Vicar's
discretionary fund was strapped, I asked Hawley what he
thought of the idea of asking people to contribute $5 or
whatever they could, so that the bags would be accessible to
everyone and the fund would benefit.
I'm not sure how many bags I have made. I do
know that I'm backlogged by eight. As to the amount
contributed, that I also do not know because I have asked
people to give their donations directly to Ernestein.
Some, though, have told me they contributed more than $5,
which is very nice.
Thanks again, Barbara, for your efforts to help
the earth, your fellow congregants and the people who are
served via the Discretionary Fund. That's a
"three-fer!"
Your editor wonders: Are there other things
we could do for each other that would at the same time
generate a little extra money for Grace?

Prayer Shawl Knitters Day
Louise Bower writes:
"Comfort and Joy,"
the knitting ministry at Christ Church, Glendale,
invites all prayer shawl knitters in the area to a gathering
on Saturday, June 28, at 10:00 am.
The morning will begin in the chapel with a short
prayer service and meditation on knitting as prayer by the
Rev. Deacon Top Borden. The event will continue with more
quiet knitting and prayer. Anyone not wishing to continue
the quiet can adjourn to Olivia House where we will have
beverages and snacks and the opportunity to visit with other
knitters. Brown bag lunch will follow at noon, with more
time to share stories and talk about a ministry to military
families that has recently come to our attention.
Please plan to come and share your stories. Please also
bring pictures and samples of any unusual shawls you are
knitting. Call Louise Bower (513-742-1729 or e-mail leb204@fuse.net) for
reservations. |
"Got Questions"
Continues June 8
The "Got Questions" group resumes Sunday, June 8, in
the parlor following the 10 am service. Deacon Gary
Givler will lead the continuation of our discussion
of "How does Jesus' death 2000 years ago atone for my
sins?"
Brunch will be served.
"Got Questions?" continues every 2nd and 4th Sunday,
until we run out of
questions. |
No, We're Not Up For Sale
Some
people who have seen this sign next to Grace have gotten the
impression that Grace is up for sale. That's not the
case.
Grace's educational wing is underutilized so
we're offering to lease it. Grace will remodel to meet the
needs of the lessor(s).
If you know of organizations that could benefit from use
of this space, tell them about it. Leasing this space will
help our budget--a lot.
See more information in the listing here.
