Worship in Lent

Sunday is the First Sunday of Lent.  As we begin our Lenten observance in earnest, I think of the image of the Prodigal Son, far away from home, yet returning as fast as he can to the embrace of his father.  Of course, it is an image of humankind alienated from the Father's presence through bad choices and sin and yet longing to return to all that is good and true.

Lent is the journey back.  The Lenten pathway is one of choosing once again for the right---giving up things which keep us away from the Kingdom of God and taking on things which lead us closer to the Heavenly realms.  Each of us makes our own choices during this season--they will be different--but the aim will be the same--the Renewal of our baptismal covenant on Easter Eve and the return to a loving Father who runs to meet us and to embrace us in His Loving Arms.

Lent has often been called "Spring" because it makes all things fresh and new.  May your own personal Lenten Spring be filled with God's Grace and Love.

Faithfully yours, Fr. Bob+

Service Changes During Lent

We'll be making several changes to our worship during Lent as we prepare for Easter.

As we do every Lent, alleluias will be omitted, to return at Easter.

Rather than singing during the communion, there will be silence to enhance individual meditation.

We'll use "'Tis a gift to be simple," as we present the offering.

Some of the service music will change  and the Lord's Prayer will be spoken rather than sung.

The liturgical color will change from green to purple.

A choir is forming for Lent and Easter. All interested should show up beginning Sunday, February 26, in the choir room at 9:15 am.

People will be sharing their experiences of God in their lives at News to Share time during each service.

Altar flowers will be replaced with greens.

Trinity, Hamilton will offer a unique Taize worship experience of prayer and peaceful meditation on Sunday evening, February 26 at 6:30 p.m. Our choir and various instrumentalists will be presenting the beautiful music of "Taize." This reflective service works well as we prepare for Lent. Both singing and silence are a vital part of the service. Taize music is not in hymn form, but is based on chant. The words are brief and repetitive to create musical prayer that is accessible to all. "Taize Worship" originates from an ecumenical community of brothers located in the small village of Taize, eastern France. Life at Taize focuses on prayer, work and hospitality. Following the service, there will be a "wine & cheese" reception for all to enjoy. If you have not had the opportunity to attend in the past, you will not want to miss this event! Trinity is located at 115 N. Sixth Street in Hamilton. For additional information call 513.896.6755.

We've added several pictures of newcomers and regulars at our Wednesday night healing service to our members and friends online photo album. You can see the album here. If your picture isn't there or if you'd like a different picture, have Ken Lyon take your picture after church, or send a picture to webmaster@gracecollegehill.org.
