Thanksgivings
Hawley Todd writes:
"Thank God for newcomers and Wednesday night folks coming to Grace last Sunday! My homily was "Why have a healing service?" In particular I looked at why we should have one on a Sunday morning. See it here.
"Yesterday was especially nice because John Thayer played his hand bells during the healing time. It was beautiful and John has consented to do it for us again! I am hoping he will be a regular as the music maker for our Sunday morning healing time!"
From Chuck Bowles:
"We are now settled and adjusting to living in a new city. What an adjustment!!!!!! But we think this was the right thing to do!
Please share our thanks to my Grace family for the great reception! As I woke this morning I felt I should stop at the church to make sure the altar guild 'stuff' was done! That is another adjustment.
My family love the gifts too. Especially the placemats and the flowers (which made the trip and are thriving on our fireplace mantle!). The rainbow hanging is in my second bedroom/office in a prominent place so that anyone walking into the room can see it and appreciate the kind of family I come from!
Please share this with anyone you think appropriate and know that you have changed my life for the better and expanded my brother and sister numerator by many!"
Wanda Miller writes:
The problem with trying to say thanks to so many who helped with Chuck's "Rainbow Party" is that, inevitably, someone is left out. J White was an integral part of the "engineering" process and was responsible for the banner being created and had the idea of a jalopy with Chuck and Harold going over the rainbow; which Mary picked up and creatively incorporated into the placemats. I had the idea of a rainbow theme because of the tapestry from the Rector's office. This definitely was a cooperative effort. I think all were pleased."
Ken and Carol Lyon thank all those who offered their condolences on the death of Carol's mother April 22.
Rhonda Sharp writes:
"Working in the office I see that it takes Bob about two or three days just to keep the grounds looking nice and the grass cut--and in the last two weeks he's been battling hoards of snakes to get it done. I would have never dreamed it takes as much work as Bob puts in to keep the grounds nice."
Rhonda Sharp writes: "Thanks to God--my husband just found a new job, and this is a big deal, because he has been on call 24/7/365 for years (salaried - so no overtime pay), during long term care, putting stress on our family. Just when his health was going into crisis, he finds the perfect new job for his situation--after years of looking it just fell in his lap. Thanks be to God."
Think about the things you're thankful for. Then let us know at office@gracecollegehill.org.

Short Subjects
Children's Hospital College Hill is setting up a "clothes closet" for their growing residents in room 13 at Grace. This will be a place where residents who are outgrowing or wearing out their clothes can come to "shop" for new or gently used clothing. Kris Moore, Children's Hospital chaplain is setting this up.

What Happens to Moses?
We had only been dating for a couple of weeks. It was dreary, cold fall day so we decided to spend the afternoon watching TV. Our channel surfing landed on The Ten Commandments, Charlton Heston-style.
We watched as the Egyptians chased Moses to the Red Sea.
"Oh my gosh! What's gonna happen? They're not going to make it." My afternoon companion leaned forward, gripped by the drama. I looked at him, dumbfounded.
"Um, it's the Ten Commandments," I reminded him.
"I know," he said. "I've never seen this movie before."

Interfaith Weekend at Transfiguration
Interfaith Weekend: Three Sacred Paths to One God is coming to Transfiguration Retreat Center on June 8-10, 2012.
They write:
Join us for a weekend of mutual listening and learning as three faithful people, one from each of the three Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), share how and where they find God in their everyday lives within the context of their faith traditions and faith communities.
Our weekend will be led by interfaith dialogue specialist, Paul F. Knitter of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Professor Knitter has journeyed deep into interfaith relations from both theological and very personal perspectives. His unique sensitivity to honoring the religions of others while at the same time enriching one's own faith from what others have to share will make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us all.
Our panelists of believers will be:
- Rabbi Ken Kanter, Hebrew Union College
- Sister Diana Dorothea, Community of the Transfiguration
- Shakila Ahmad, Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati and BRIDGES For A Just Community
We are all guaranteed to leave the event more awake to the immeasurable depth and breadth of our human ability to live in relationship with God.
Space is limited. Please contact Transfiguration Spirituality Center at (513) 771-2171 or CTRetreats@gmail.org for reservations. $225 for single room with private bath and all meals, Friday supper through Sunday breakfast. $100 commuter rate which includes lunch on Saturday. $50 non-refundable deposit required to make reservation.
