Sunday is Pentecost.  Wear Red!

This Sunday, May 27th, we observe The Day of Pentecost. This is when we celebrate the Lord's gift of the Holy Spirit as the birthday of the church. It was upon receiving this gift that the Apostles were able to go out into the world to preach, heal and baptize in the name of Jesus.

The first Pentecost is described in Acts 2:1-4:

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.   And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

"The reading from Acts is the account of the first Pentecost Day when the Holy Spirit empowered the infant Church to proclaim Jesus as Lord to all people. In the presence of people from many parts of the world, they spoke the Word to all.

"We gather in Eucharist as people reborn by water and the Holy Spirit in baptism. Gifted with God's Spirit, we are sent to proclaim good news to every people and language and nation and to be built into a royal priesthood in Christ.*"

At Grace Church then, we will remember this time in several ways - we will wear red or orange or yellow to remind us of the tongues of flame, we will read prayers in several different languages and we will celebrate with joyous music (including handbells and drumming) and birthday cake!

Come join us!
