Pentecost Celebrated Last Sunday

Grace Church celebrated Pentecost--the birthday of the church--last Sunday with drums, handbells and flame-like colors recalling the tongues of flame that rested on the apostles. Readings and songs in several languages continued the disciples' tradition of speaking in many languages so the Good News could be understood by all people. Birthday cake followed during Snack 'n Chat following the service.

Sunday is Sunday School Sunday

Tomorrow is Sunday School Sunday, when we congratulate our youth on completing another year of class and where we celebrate their accomplishments during the preceding year.  They'll be active participants throughout our worship service.
Peanut Butter?  Toilet Tissue? Canned Goods? It's all needed at the Pantry.

This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month ---already!  Time to bring in the items you've been saving for the Christ Community in College Hill pantry.  What do they need?  Probably whatever non-perishables that appear on your own family's grocery list again and again.

Now that the children are out of school, the demand on the family's cupboard is even more extreme.  So yes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, macaroni and cheese, canned meats or tuna,  canned soups,  fruits and vegetables are all good choices.  And, as Roger Perna mentioned Sunday, toilet paper can't be purchased with food stamps but folks still need it!

Don't have any of these to spare?  Not to worry, just bring as much folding money as you can spare and put it in the can on the sign-up table.  CCCH will do the shopping for you.  And each hungry tummy says THANK YOU!

Altar Flowers

Altar flowers last Sunday were given in honor of Thomas Cameron by John Thayer. See the flames?

Altar flowers this Sunday are given in memory of Irene Bryeans by Ken & Carol Lyon.

To donate altar flowers on the Sunday of your choosing, see the sign-up sheet in the church near the upper Belmont entrance. Or call the office. Or donate online here.

Thanksgivings

Many thanks to the Uganda Class for taking time on a recent Saturday to make our grounds look much better.   And  thanks to Wanda Miller for providing pictures, which you can see here:  picasaweb.google.com/gracecollegehill/UgandaClassWorkDay2012

An emailer who wants to remain anonymous is thankful for eGraceNotes, "which keeps me informed about all kinds of ministries."

Wanda Miller thanks Bob Jones for the work he did to get our lawnmower repaired last week.

Rhonda Sharp thanks Ken Lyon for sorting through all of the emails each week to prepare for eGraceNotes announcements.

Short Subjects
Absalom JonesWanda Miller shares this posting from Loyola Press:

The Paschal Mystery in Everyday Life
The liturgy of the Church, the celebration of the sacraments, and the seasons of Lent and Easter are particular times when we pay attention to what Jesus Christ has done for us through his passion, death, Resurrection, and Ascension. Yet these are not the only times when we experience the Paschal Mystery. It is a part of our everyday life; it is the undercurrent of all that we do and all that we are.

What does this mean? How do I experience the Paschal Mystery? How does it affect me on a day-to-day basis? How do I become aware of its presence in my life in a real way and not just something I know about?  .....
