About this service ...

 

Healing is the process of becoming the person God created us to be. Wholeness and healing happen as we invite God's presence into our lives. Prayers for healing are simply putting oneself in an attitude and position where one is open to receive God deeper into one's life. Healing is holistic. It involves the body, emotions, mind, and spirit of a person. And not only that, it involves all of one's relationships with others and creation. With that understanding of healing, we can see that Eucharist is also a healing service. Both services focus on healing the wounds that separate us from God, from each other, and that exist within ourselves.

 

Thus, coming to the rail for healing prayers in this service has much the same function as coming for the elements in the Eucharistic service.

It is easy to take for granted what we have.

 

Of course we know our services would still proceed without a bulletin, but most of us have come to depend on having this worship guide each Sunday morning.  

 

Our bulletins have been prepared every Sunday for the past several years thanks to the hard work of Tammy Robertson, Judy Handy and the bulletin team.  (Others, such as Grace Staples and Mary McLain, likewise, have been dedicated to this effort over the years and continue to serve as backup). Members of the bulletin team see how hard Judy works on the bulletin every week, and it is clear that Tammy, too, has devoted much time and energy to this task.

 

Judy and Tammy get the music, scriptures, graphics, prayers, etc. that are appropriate for the upcoming service downloaded into the bulletin template.  Judy coordinates with everyone involved in the service to make sure the bulletin is acceptable to them and makes any requested changes. The bulletin format often changes based on this input. The goal is to meet as many of Grace's needs as possible in the production of this worship tool.  She then coordinates with Madeena Nolan and Rhonda Sharp to get it finalized and printed.  She also works with the bulletin team to see to it that items appropriate for GraceNotes are forwarded to the editor.   

 

One factor--the stewardship of our resources--keeps us mindful of our paper use. Judy sees to the regular assessment of the size and number of bulletins to be printed. Extra bulletins and Grace Notes are delivered or mailed to our shut-ins, and the rest are recycled.   

 

Judy works very hard to find the balance between all of these bulletin responsibilities, her role as Worship Team co-chair, her family obligations and more.  

After serving in this bulletin-prep capacity for about 3 years now, while working a full-time job (often on different shifts), Tammy is transitioning off of the bulletin and Worship teams. She will still be a member of the Altar Guild and Healing team, however.  

 

Perhaps you too will want to thank these ladies for their service when next you see them.    

 

Thanks to John Thayer for accompanying the Celebration of Wholeness and Healing service this Sunday, as well as the Wednesday Healing Service. 

 

Thanks to Rhonda Sharp for accepting the responsibility of office coordinator from the Executive Committee. Already, she's working hard to organize and simplify our office procedures, starting with the calendar. That's good for everyone!    

 

Thanks to Gwynne Gabbard for emailing information about Wednesday's Healing Service to over 50 of her friends. That might help explain why Hawley reported that the church was "at capacity" for the service.

Altar flowers this Sunday are given by Elizabeth Kelly in memory of her and Irvin's wedding anniversary, which is June 18.

Mary McLain attended this month's College Hill Summit meeting of neighborhood leaders and reports:

Belmont House across the street from us will soon start re-construction again. DMG Rentals is currently finishing up another property on Cedar and as soon as it is finished, work will resume on the Belmont House. Go look at the property on Cedar--it is the apartment complex on the part of Cedar near Belmont at the curve. Previously, it was a dump. Now, it's beautiful! Police report that another property was the site of frequent police calls until DMG took over. Rental standards are strict and the properties are beautifully maintained. We're looking forward to having an attractive and well-managed neighbor across the street from us.

Pastoral Care

If you need pastoral care or know of someone who does, please call or email the office (513-541-2415, office@gracecollegehill.org). Keep us informed about about illness, hospital stays, requests for visits, communion, and prayers for special concerns.
Worship Service Schedule & Participants

Here is the worship schedule through the end of September, as of today. The up-to-date schedule is available on our website (gracecollegehill.org).

If you're scheduled and can't make it, find a substitute and let Ken Lyon (webmaster@gracecollegehill.org, 513-542-2941) know so the schedule can be updated.
