Worship in Air-Conditioned Comfort Sunday.

Absalom JonesBothered by 100+ degree temps outside? Not to worry. Sunday worship service at Grace will move to the air-conditioned Great Hall in July and August. Come and worship in the cool!

Bring Your Bibles. We're taking advantage of the change of venue to try some other changes some other changes for the Summer. We'll be saving paper by shortening the bulletin a lot.  We'll be projecting hymns on a screen, and we'll not be printing out the readings in the bulletin, so bring your Bibles if you want to read along.
Peanut Butter?  Toilet Tissue? Canned Goods? It's all needed at the Pantry.
Absalom Jones
This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month ---already!  Time to bring in the items you've been saving for the Christ Community in College Hill pantry.  What do they need?  Probably whatever non-perishables that appear on your own family's grocery list again and again.

Now that the children are out of school, the demand on the family's cupboard is even more extreme.  So yes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, macaroni and cheese, canned meats or tuna,  canned soups,  fruits and vegetables are all good choices.  And, as Roger Perna mentioned Sunday, toilet paper can't be purchased with food stamps but folks still need it!

Don't have any of these to spare?  Not to worry, just bring as much folding money as you can spare and put it in the can on the sign-up table.  CCCH will do the shopping for you.  And each hungry tummy says THANK YOU!
Worth Reading--The Last Week by Borg and Crossan.

If you, like me, have had questions about Good Friday and the Resurrection I recommend reading The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem by Marcus Borg and Dominic Crossan. They tackle difficult questions.   For example, what does it mean to say Jesus died for my sins? Or, what did the Resurrection look like and what did it mean? And, really what is the Kingdom of God and what does that look like?

For me, this book answered in a believable way questions about the Passion that I have had for many years. It opened my eyes to possibilities I hadn't even thought about. Finally, some ideas floating around in the church came together and made sense for me.

Thanks to Carol Lyon for this article.

Ken Lyon adds:  "I've been pondering--puzzling over--the meaning of Jesus' death and resurrection for many years. This book finally made sense of the mystery for me.  I'd never really been able to make sense of atoning sacrifice, and had suspected that the real meaning was something other than that.  These authors present a convincing picture that, for me, said out loud some things that I'd suspected but dared not think through.  This book was a great "aha" moment for me.  I'm glad I've lived long enough to have the benefit of their scholarship."

... to the folks who are coming Saturday morning at 9 am to help set up the Great Hall for worship on Sunday.
