The Community Meal is Growing
Attendance is growing at the free Community Meal. In August, we served about 60 people. Note that this free meal is available to all who want a nice meal and the opportunity of conversation with those who come.
The meal is growing in another way as well. In September, we'll serve two meals: Wednesday, September 12 will be an Italian-style meal, served from 5pm to 8pm; another meal is scheduled for September 26.
Note that money is not accepted at these meals (so as not to embarrass those who cannot contribute money). If you'd like to pay for your meal or just support this ministry monetarily, click here to contribute with your credit card, or see J White in person with your cash.
These meals are joint efforts of Life Renewal Discipleship Church and Grace Church. In addition to money, there are three other ways you can contribute to this effort.
- Come the night before about 7 pm to help prepare the meals.
- Contribute fixin's to be used at upcoming meals (J says that whatever you contribute, they'll figure out a way to prepare and serve).
- Read the next article for an appeal for kitchen utensils from J White.

Give Your Kitchen Utensils a Second Career in Grace Church's Kitchen
Dear Grace Family & Friends: Many of us have "retired" from cooking large meals every day. Now, let's "retire" our pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils by giving them a "second career" in Grace's Great Hall kitchen. They will be used to prepare food for the Community Dinners, as well as the Snack 'n Chat that follows every Sunday Service, the Parolee lunches, cooking classes... and the list goes on. Specifically, we can use the following:
- Stew/stock pots, 10 qt.
- Sauce pans with covers, 2, 3, 4 & 8 qt.
- 12" skillet with cover
- 6" or 8" non-stick skillet
- two 9" inch round cake pans
- 9" square cake pan
- 9"x12" baking pan
- 9"x5" loaf pan
- Heavy duty roasting pan
- Measuring cups & spoons
- Mesh strainer
- Colanders
- Mixing bowls of various sizes
- Wooden spoons of various sizes
- Heatproof rubber spatula set
- Cooling racks
- 2 cookie sheets
- two 12 cup muffin tins
- Knives:
- 10" chef knife
- 9" to 12" serrated
- 3" to 4" paring
- Forks for meat in varying sizes
- Cutting boards
- Sturdy can opener
Miscellaneous Wish List - Swivel bladed vegetable peeler
- Grater with various size holes
- Kitchen timer
- Corkscrew
- Whisks
- Shears
- Food processor
- Dish towels
- Dishwashing liquid
This is a list of the basic needs for our Great Hall Kitchen. All these items will be appreciated and used in the service of our community in Jesus' name. Much love, peace & blessings, J White, Pastor Rita Bryant and Robbon.

Thanks to ...
... all those who helped make our Friday evening with IHN such a success. The meal of meatloaf, mac and cheese, green beans, salad and brownies and ice cream was wonderful thanks to Mary McLain, J. White, Virginia Chapel, Wanda Miller and Judy Handy. (Two sisters, aged 12 and 10, said they could have eaten the whole bowl of green beans they loved them so much. But I think they did get their fill!) Thanks also to Ruth Bertram, Mary and Wanda for doing the serving and cleanup and acting as table hosts. Finally, big thanks to Mike Nolan, his grandchildren Max and Gwendolyn, Camille Boykins, and J. White for keeping the children happy with coloring, board games, etc. We all enjoyed interacting with these very nice guests and hope they had a wonderful time at their free Kings Island day on Saturday. (And we were glad the pregnant mom did not deliver on our watch!)
... all who made the August Community Meal a success.
... Mary McLain, Grace Staples and Ruth Bertram for preparing and serving food for the parolees and workers on Parolee Day.
... Hawley Todd for getting yet another year of Education for Ministry classes organized and for helping one of our members get the support needed to enroll.
... J White for all the work she has done to get new renters into the building and for all the work she has done to make the monthly (now bi-monthly) dinners a success! Also, thanks for working with the Rainbow Band to get the fundraising event coordinated.
... the Queen City Rainbow Band for the fundraising concert they are planning for September.
... Ruth Bertram for the cleaning supplies and the office supplies you purchased and donated last week.

Selected Short Subjects
Food Pantry Sunday is next week. Remember to bring non-perishable groceries for the College Hill Food Pantry to the 10 am worship service the first Sunday of every month.
Choir will be starting up soon. Contact Bill Jenne (williamjenne1@aol.com) for more information. Beginning August 1, guidelines go into effect that will ensure that women receive a comprehensive set of preventive services without having to pay a co-pay or meet a deductible. The guidelines add new protections to the list of preventive services already required under the Affordable Care Act. Grace Staples reminds us that these services are available at Planned Parenthood for those who don't have a regular doctor. See more info here: diosohio.org/dfc/newsdetail_2/3154747Researchers from the Human Population Laboratories of the Public Health Institute and the California Department of Health Services, and from the University of California, Berkeley, found that people who attended religious services once a week had significantly lower risks of death compared with those who attended less frequently or never, even after adjusting for age, health behaviors and other risk factors. The study will be published April 4 in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine. See the article here: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/4132
