Mo-Tones Concert Raises $1000

Last Saturday's concert at Grace by the Mo-Tones raised $1000 for Grace Church building improvements.  The band, under the baton of Andy Garitson provided an enthusiastic audience with fine renditions of a variety of big band style music.

Singer Sherry McCamley brought the audience to its feet with her solos.

A spirited auction for the privilege of conducting the band during a Glenn Miller number pitted one bidder trying to keep Roger Perna off the podium against other bidders wanting to see him conduct. Roger's supporters won with a $50 bid, and our Senior Warden did an enthusiastic job.

And yes, there was dancing on the newly-polished Great Hall floor.

This benefit concert was initiated by the Rainbow Band, of which the Mo-Tones big band is a subset, as a thanks for Grace's hospitality during the ten years that the band has been practicing here. Concert coordination on Grace's side was handled by J White.

You can see more photos of the concert here or by going to Grace's website and clicking on the Photo Albums link on the left site of the page.

A Google Virtual Tour photo shoot is scheduled for Monday at 8am. We've had a flurry of activity getting ready, and have more to do Sunday afternoon.  You'll notice the difference the next time you visit Grace.  You can see what a virtual tour looks like by looking at the one done for St. James Westwood recently, here.

Grace Staples highly recommends the website smartvoter.org It is so user friendly and displays candidate-provided information (in depth) for dozens of candidates on your ballot for city, county, state, and national offices as well as issues.  Candidates also provide answers to League of Women Voters questions.  It's not only easy but it is comparing apples to apples answers and info.  You'll find some surprises.  Be an informed voter!

Executive Committee meetings are open to anyone who wants to bring their suggestions, questions or concerns.  The Committee meets every Monday at 5:30pm in the office.

We've made up a new worship volunteer schedule that takes us through the end of 2012. Check it out and let Ken Lyon (webmaster@gracecollegehill.org) know of any mistakes or changes.  If you can't serve at a time you've been listed, use the volunteer list at the bottom of the schedule to find a replacement, please. The article below lists the schedule through the end of October. The website has the whole schedule. Click here or go to the Grace website and click on Worship Service Participant Schedule link on the left side of the page.

Virginia Chapel tells us that she's looking for people who would be willing to lead children's Sunday School on a rotating basis.  Sunday School is quite important to the growth of our young people and to the ability of our church to attract and keep people with children.  To find out more, contact Virginia at virginia.chapel@fuse.net or (513) 522-5893.
