Grace-Style Healing Services Spread

It has been said that the sincerest form of flattery is imitation.  If that is true, Grace Church has much in which to rejoice. On Sunday Oct 21, 2012, two churches implemented their versions of our Celebrations of Wholeness and Healing.

At St. Paul United Church of Christ, Old Blue Rock Road, the Rev. Michelle Torigian used sections of our Sunday morning healing liturgy during a Sunday morning healing service at St. Paul UCC.

Calvary Lutheran Church in Louisvillehas begun offering a service copied after our Wednesday evening healing service on the 3rd Sunday afternoon of every month. The pastor and several members had attended the Wednesday evening Celebration of Wholeness and Healing for several months before concluding they could do a similar service at their church.

One exciting aspect of our Wednesday Celebration of Wholeness and Healing is how often people travel to come to this service.  Last month we had a
group attend from Lawrenceburg, IN.  We have had groups from throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. We even had a couple fly in from Manhattan!

The ripple effects of what we are doing on Wednesday night are often hard for us to see. However I do believe God is using Grace Church, Cincinnati, as a beacon on the hill to help spread the light of Christ's love and healing far beyond our borders and community!

Thanks to Hawley Todd for this article.
 Thanks to ...

... the 25 members and friends who have pledged $46,636 to support Grace Church in 2013.

... those who made last Sunday's Bruncheon a success, especially to Roger Perna and Wanda Miller for handling the invitations, to Belinda Perna, Roger Perna, Bob Jones, Don Wake, Wanda Miller, Virginia Chapel, J White, Sam Spade and Barbara Todd for providing the food and setting up the room, and to all who attended for pitching in after the Bruncheon to clean up and put away--just like a real family!

... Bob Jones for providing a home-cooked lunch for Rhonda Sharp and Don Wake on Hallowe'en.

... John Thayer, Lisa Perry and Tammy Robertson for the handbell and drumming performance you provided two weeks ago.

... John Thayer for always sharing your handbells with the congregation, and especially for your performance last week.

... Jackie Millay for providing free Chi-Kung and Tai-Chi classes to anyone in the congregation who want to attend this past week.

... Don Wake for purchasing a leaf blower and donating it to the church, and for giving his time to help Bob with work on the grounds and inside the church.

... Mary McLain, Grace Staples and Ruth Bertram for preparing and serving a wonderful Cincinnati chili and spaghetti lunch for the parolees on parolee day. As usual, it was delicious.

... Bob Jones for providing breakfast for the parolees and for managing their work. And, thank you to the parolees for all of the work they did for us.

Carl Relyea Celebrates 100 Years

About 50 people gathered recently to celebrate the first 100 years of Carl Relyea's life. Carl had been Clerk of Grace Church's Vestry for many years.  Although he was a long-time member, he was never seen at Grace Church on Sundays because he was organist at other area churches.  Carl's day jobs were as a meteorologist and a hydrologist.

Carl was presented a DVD of captioned slides depicting his life, and guests took turns writing notes on pages that were placed in a scrapbook. It was a wonderful, life affirming event.

Thanks to Deborah Relyea for this article and picture.
