The Christmas Celebration Continues

You can tell it's Christmas at Grace Church--the ribbons have changed from Advent purple to Christmas red.

Sunday is the first (and only) Sunday of the twelve-day Christmas season.  Our celebration continues with singing of Christmas hymns and the reading of John's "In the beginning was the word..." Gospel.

Next Sunday:  Epiphany.  The wise men come, finally.
Bishop Breidenthal Baptizes Nine; Receives One

Last Sunday, Bishop Breidenthal came to baptize nine new members of Christ's Church, and to receive one person into the fellowship of the Episcopal Church.

The previous week, in preparation for what he called "the most important day in the lives of our sisters and brothers," Hawley Todd preached on the meaning of baptism. You can read what he said on the Grace Church website here.

Those baptized were:
  • Tony and Tiffany Saylor and their children, Elianah Mae Saylor, Cailyn Aryanna Saylor, Skyler Elaine Watson and Hayden Andrew Saylor.
  • Alexis Rae Woeste and Corlyn Wayne Saylor.
  • GemriYah Yael Jones, daughter of Devorah Israel and Kevin Jones, granddaughter of Anna Black.

Don Wake was received into the Episcopal Church.

See more pictures on the Grace Church website.
Christmas Flowers
The flowers on the altar Christmas Sunday are given by Grace Staples in thanksgiving for her brother's successful surgery.

The Christmas poinsettias were given by ....

... Leah Wilson and family in thanksgiving for her family,
... John Thayer in thanksgiving for his family,
... Phillis Dietz in memory of Jim Dietz,
... Wanda Miller in thanksgiving for the Grace Church family,
... Grace Staples in memory of Grace Church loved ones departed,
... Tammy Robertson to honor the Baby Jesus,
... the Memorial Fund in memory of Maureen Back and Beverly Ashton.
 Thanks to ...

... Mary McLain and Belinda Perna for orchestrating a wonderful luncheon to honor Bishop Breidenthal on his visitation to Grace Church on December 23rd. They provided a scrumptious meal of ham and turkey with all the trimmings. Mary and Belinda were assisted greatly by Tammy Robertson and Lisa Perry, who devoted many hours in set-up, preparation, serving, and clean-up. Additional food was provided by Ruth Bertram, Virginia Chapel, Carol Lyon, Jackie McCray, Wanda Miller, and Grace Staples. A thank you is also extended to Ken and Carol Lyon for providing mimosas, which added a special touch to the event.

... Wanda Miller and everyone else who helped with the reception following the Christmas eve service.

... the "magic bunny" who reinstalled kneelers so that all our pews now have them.

... the "magic bunnies" who cleared our walks and parking lot Saturday.

... Bishop Breidenthal and Canon Anne Reed for coming to Grace last Sunday to baptize nine (!) new members of Christ's Church and to receive a new member of the Episcopal Church.

... Dan Pater, our organist for many of our services in late December, for doing double duty on his busy schedule as he dashes from church to church, and to Carolyn Koehl, who is helping with our Christmas Day service.
... Grace Staples for all the paperwork and preparation she did for Sunday's baptisms.
... Judy Handy and everyone on The Bulletin Team for their hard work. December is the hardest month with extra bulletins. Every one on the team worked together to prepare the extra bulletins AND cover for each other for vacations, holiday time with family, etc. Yet, every year they all work together so well to make sure that everything gets done.

... Don Wake and Bob Jones for making our facility look extra good for the upcoming special worship services.
