A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

The Greater Grace Church Community
Not too long ago, we began describing Grace Church as "A Spiritual Home Where All are Welcome." Soon thereafter, we added "A Healing Place in a Broken World." At first, these were statements of intent; lately they are becoming more and more a reality, as more and more are becoming part of Grace Church's Extended Community of Friends. We are learning to think of all those who participate in some way in life in or around Grace Church as part of Grace Church's Extended Family. In addition to those involved in Grace Church's Sunday worship and Wednesday night Healing services, there are many others who are in some way a part of the life of Grace Church:
- The people from all walks of life who come to the free Community Dinner at Grace twice a month.
- The members of the Queen City Rainbow Band who have made their home at Grace Church for over ten years.
- Participants in several groups with a healing emphasis that meet at Grace. These include
- ChiKung and TaiChi classes.
- Iyengar Yoga classes.
- Oneness Blessing (Deeksha).
- World Sound Healing Day.
- Narcotics Anonymous.
- Members of the Life Renewal Fellowship Church who have been meeting at Grace for several years.
- The parolees come to Grace for fellowship and a meal while they earn community service credit.
- Education for Ministry students who come to Grace from all over Greater Cincinnati.
- The homeless whom Grace members serve through Interfaith Hospitality Net.
- The people come to Grace to use our beautiful sanctuary and newly-redecorated conference rooms for weddings, receptions and meetings
In the past, we've thought of our membership as those who attend Sunday morning worship. Now, we need to find ways of making this concept of the Extended Family of Grace Church a reality in the minds of all involved. Article contributed by Ken Lyon, whose thinking was inspired by a conversation that Bishop Breidenthal had with Mission Council during his recent visitation.

Oneness Blessing Coming to Grace Every Tuesday Oneness Blessing College Hill will begin meeting weekly at Grace Church starting this Tuesday, February 19, at 7 pm. There is no charge, though a donation is welcome to cover costs. You can come early for conversation and community at 6:30. This experiential event lasts for roughly 1-1/2 hours. You don't need to bring anything, chairs and blankets are provided. We hope to be blessed by your presence! The Oneness Blessing is a dogma-free, subtle energy transmission for the purpose of personal growth, enhanced meditation and a on-going quieting of the mind. Some people that experience the Oneness Blessing report strong spiritual experiences, positive changes in their lives, and becoming immersed in in a field of ease and joy that follows them into their daily life. The Oneness Blessing facilitates deeper connection to your personal spiritual path and religious beliefs. In fact many of the world's major religious leaders, including The Dali Lama approve of the process. See the Oneness Blessing College Hill Meetup page here. You can read more about Oneness here: onenessuniversity.org. Questions? Contact Matt Ziegler (mattzman@yahoo.com). |
Annual Meeting Coming Sunday
This Sunday after worship, all members and friends are invited to come together to elect officers, hear reports, and enjoy lunch. Lunch will be pot-luck; bring a dish to pass if you can. The Nominating Committee (Mary McClain and Ken Lyon) expects to make several nominations for various offices. Other nominations may be made at the meeting, with the permission of the nominee. Wardens are the chief lay officers of an Episcopal church. In the absence of a resident clergy, they provide the overall executive function. The following have agreed to be nominated: - Roger Perna for another 1-year term as Senior Warden.
- Wanda Miller for another 1-year term as Junior Warden.
Mission Council is responsible for stewardship, business & finances, maintenance of the physical plant, administration and oversight, hiring new staff and appointing leadership as needed. It consists of the Wardens and six to nine members who meet monthly. The following have agreed to be nominated to Mission Council:
- Hawley Todd for a 1-year term.
- John Thayer, Ruth Bertram and Sam Spade for 3-year terms.
Remaining on Mission Council are David Mukasa, J White, and Ken Lyon. Assuming that all nominees are elected, we will have seven Mission Council Members, so there are two more positions available, if there are others who wish to serve. The Mission & Formation Team is responsible for the programs of the church. As such, the M&F Team consists of several teams, each with their own leader(s): Worship, Pastoral Care, Outreach, Newcomer Ministry & Congregational Life, Healing Ministry and Christian Formation (aka education). The following have agreed to be nominated to leadership positions on the Mission & Formation Team: - Laurie LeCLaire to serve a three-year term as Pastoral Care Co-Leader.
- Rhonda Sharp to serve a three-year term as Newcomer Ministry & Congregational Life Co-Leader.
- Hawley Todd to serve a one-year term as Healing Ministry Team Leader.
Remaining Team Leaders are: - Bill Jenne, Worship Team Leader.
- David Mukasa, Pastoral Care Co-Team Leader.
- J White, Outreach Team Leader.
- J White, Newcomer Ministry & Congregational Life Co-Team Leader.
- Virginia Chapel, Christian Formation Team Leader.
The Mission & Formation Team needs a convener or co-conveners. The Nominating Committee has not yet found anyone to serve in this position. Convention Delegates. Carol Lyon and David Mukasa remain as Convention Delegates, each serving the last year of a two year term. Maria Mukasa and Ken Lyon have agreed to be nominated as Convention Alternates.

Looking for Those Who Want a Pastoral Care Visit
From Laurie LeClaire, co-leader, Pastoral Care Team:
I am requesting your help in locating those who would benefit from our Pastoral Care ministry.
We have a number of Lay Eucharistic Visitors willing to make home visits, offer prayers and/or make phone calls to those who request it. If you or someone you know has a need for this special ministry, please contact the church office (513-541-2415, office@gracecollegehill.org) and leave a message. Your message will be passed to David Mukasa and me so that we can coordinate the efforts in a timely manner.
Also if you have any suggestions or are interested in being a part of this team ministry, you may do the same or speak to one of us after church any Sunday.

Selected Short Subjects We got a cheerful note from our college student Darice Chapel. She recently received a card from Anne Henneberg saying that she graduated from Miami University over 50 years ago and lived in Wells Hall where Darice resides now. This put a smile on her face. Note that Darice loves receiving cards and letters--and emails ( dancer801@fuse.net). She says "hello" to everyone at Grace Church. Jackie Millay writes: Feel the Force of Calm-Be Peace. This series of five classes will teach more of an awareness of our inner energy pathways. This can lead to a deep, abiding connection with a peaceful flow of tranquility, resilience, and more vibrant health. Please join us in further enjoyment of your abundant Chi (vital lifeforce energy). Class is offered Fridays from Feb. 22 through March 22 from 6:30 to 8PM. Cost is $50 for the series, $40 if registered by Weds., Feb. 20. Instructor: Jackie Millay, 513-541-4900. The New Life Furniture Bank writes: We ended 2012 strong, thanks to wonderful folks like you! When folks leave a homeless shelter to start a new life, we provide them with up to 18 pieces of free furniture. In 2012, wee served 400 households--942 people, 501 of whom were children. We need your gently used furniture. All pickups are free. See nlfurniture.org or call us at 513-313-0530.
