Lenten Spirituality Program at Grace:
Drawing Closer to Jesus

Sam Spade is happy to announce the details of Grace Church's Lenten Program: Drawing Closer to Jesus. A one hour session will be held each Friday from 11 am to Noon through March 22 in the Parlor.

The schedule for the sessions is detailed below:

On Friday, March 21, the program was Draw Closer to Jesus Using Anglican Prayer Beads. Sam Spade shared a brief history of prayer beads throughout history and various cultures and led the group through several different types of prayers that can be used with the beads. Since we know that a number of parishioners were unable to attend, Anni would be happy to repeat this presentation at another time--perhaps after Snack and Chat, or one Saturday, or on a Wednesday evening. Let her know if you're interested (gracefullsunangel@gmail.com).

March 1:    Draw Closer to Jesus Watching an Award Winning Short Film. Jesus was a Commie was written and performed by Actor Matthew Modine, (Full Metal Jacket). Screening (10 minutes) will be followed by prayer and discussion led by Sam Spade   Jesus was a Commie has won Best Short Film at the Traverse City Film Festival (2011), The Spokane Film Festival (2012) and The Out of the Box Film Festival (2012).

March 8: Drawing Closer to Jesus with Hildegard von Bingen, Week 1.  Hildegard of Bingen was a 12th Century abbess who founded a Benedictine order and is known for her herbal remedies, her music and her meditations.  Carol Lyon will lead us in Centering Prayer meditations from the writings of Hildegard.

March 15: Drawing Closer to Jesus with St. Hildegard von Bingen, Week 2.  Carol Lyon will lead us in  a second week of Centering Prayer based on the Meditations of St. Hildegard of Bingen.

March 22:   Drawing Closer to Jesus Via The Way of the Cross.  Led by Judy Handy.

If there is a problem because of weather, the leader will sent an email out to Grace Leaders by 9:30 am of the morning of the session.
Annual Meeting News

At last Sunday's Annual Meeting of Grace Church, members and friends got together after worship to have a nice luncheon, hear a summary of the Annual Reports and elect people to various offices.

Annual Reports: All areas of Grace Church submitted reports of their work during 2012. The Senior Warden's report is an especially good summary of the year at Grace Church. See the reports here: gracecollegehill.blogspot.com/search/label/Annual%20Report

Elections: All of those nominated prior to the meeting were elected, but our democratic process did result in some unexpected results--all good.   Perhaps the best news of the day was the election of people who had not previously been elected to positions at Grace: Ruth Bertram, Rhonda Sharp, Laurie LeClaire and Sam Spade. They join those re-elected to their positions as well as those already serving multi-year terms.

You can see the current makeup of people serving Grace Church here:  gracecollegehill.org/people.shtml

You  can see their pictures in the Grace Church Photo Album here:  picasaweb.google.com/105358243887696716088
Wardens: As expected, Roger Perna and Wanda Miller were elected for another 1-year term as Senior and Junior Wardens, respectively. This will be their last year in these offices.
Mission Council: As expected, Hawley Todd was elected for a 1-year term to Mission Council, and John Thayer, Ruth Bertram and Sam Spade for 3-year terms. Bill Jenne was nominated from the floor and was elected to serve an unfilled 2-year term.
Mission & Formation Team Leaders: As expected, Laurie LeCLaire was elected to serve a three-year term as Pastoral Care Co-Leader, Rhonda Sharp to serve a three-year term as Newcomer Ministry & Congregational Life Co-Leader, J White to the additional position of Outreach Team Leader, and Hawley Todd to serve a one-year term as Healing Ministry Team Leader.
The Nominating Committee had made no nomination for the position of
Convener of the Mission and Formation Team. At the meeting, David Mukasa and Ken Lyon were asked to serve, and agreed to serve as co-conveners until a convener or conveners can be found. The task of filling this position now falls to Mission Council.
Convention Delegates. As expected, Maria Mukasa and Ken Lyon were elected as Convention Alternates.

World Sound Healing Day Came to Grace Last Week

World Sound Healing Day drew between 130 and 175 people to Grace Church last Tuesday.  All pews were filled, folding chairs filled the empty spaces in the church and there was standing room only.

Some attendees were heard to say that they want to come back and make Grace Church their home.

Laurie LeClaire reports:
"I enjoyed the evening sitting next to my son Jeffrey, who is home briefly from teaching in Russia. We all sang "eee, ahhh, ehhh,,ouuoo, ohhh, etc " while tuning our chakras with Esposito's crystal bowl intro. The performing artists were excellent, especially the native American flutist, 2 pianista, and the African drummer. Tears of release and joy flowed happily from many of the participants including me. We ended the concert with an audience participation sing-along holding hands to "Let there be peace on Earth."  Overall it was refreshing. The sanctuary at Grace has wonderful acoustics for musical performances.
J White, the Grace Church contact for this event, reports that the leaders of the event say they feel welcome at Grace. They have been invited to make Grace their base for World Sound Healing, as part of Grace's goal to make Grace Church a place/destination for spiritual expression and healing.

Oneness Blessing Coming to Grace Every Tuesday

Oneness Blessing College Hill began meeting weekly at Grace Church last Tuesday at 7 pm. There is no charge, though a donation is welcome to cover costs. You can come early for conversation and community at 6:30. This experiential event lasts for roughly 1-1/2 hours. You don't need to bring anything, chairs and blankets are provided. We hope to be blessed by your presence!

The Oneness Blessing is a dogma-free, subtle energy transmission for the purpose of personal growth, enhanced meditation and a on-going quieting of the mind. Some people that experience the Oneness Blessing report strong spiritual experiences, positive changes in their lives, and becoming immersed in in a field of ease and joy that follows them into their daily life.

The Oneness Blessing facilitates deeper connection to your personal spiritual path and religious beliefs. In fact many of the world's major religious leaders, including The Dali Lama approve of the process.

See the Oneness Blessing College Hill Meetup page here. You can read more about Oneness here: onenessuniversity.org.   Questions? Contact Matt Ziegler (mattzman@yahoo.com).

The Flowers on the Altar ...

... last week were given by Rhonda Sharp memory of her Mother, Cloma Partin, whose birthday would have been this coming Saturday, February 23.

You can donate money for altar flowers to adorn our worship, to glorify God, and to honor whomever you might want to specify.  The suggested donation is $35 for one Sunday.  You may sign up on the flower sheet by the Belmont door, or call the church office.  Or you can donate online here.

Looking for Those Who Want a Pastoral Care Visit

From Laurie LeClaire, co-leader, Pastoral Care Team:

I am requesting your help in locating those who would benefit from our Pastoral Care ministry.

We have a number of Lay Eucharistic Visitors willing to make home visits, offer prayers and/or make phone calls to those who request it. If you or someone you know has a need for this special ministry, please contact the church office (513-541-2415, office@gracecollegehill.org) and leave a message. Your message will be passed to David Mukasa and me so that we can coordinate the efforts in a timely manner.

Also if you have any suggestions or are interested in being a part of this team ministry, you may do the same or speak to one of us after church any Sunday.
