Lenten Spirituality Program Continues
Grace Church's Lenten Program--Drawing Closer to Jesus--continues with a rerun of an earlier program this Sunday. Other one-hour sessions will be held each Friday from 11 am to Noon until March 22 in the Parlor at Grace Church.
Sam Spade offers a repeat of the Anglican Rosary Workshop this Sunday, March 3 from Noon to 1 pm in the Parlor. Inclement weather kept many people who wanted to attend the original workshop from attending, so she is offering a second chance to attend. Anni will share a brief history of prayer beads throughout history and various cultures and lead the group through several different types of prayers that can be used with the beads. Wanda Miller attended this workshop earlier and wrote, " Today I had a wonderful experience with Anni learning about using Anglican beads for praying. I learned that the beads (Anglican rosary) help one stay focused while praying, meditating, communicating with God."For those who do not have their own set of Anglican prayer beads, Anni will offer some for sale at Snack & Chat. For lunch, Anni is making Turkey chili and corn muffin, or feel free to pack a lunch if you like.
Coming Friday, March 8:
Drawing Closer to Jesus with Hildegard von Bingen, Week 1. Hildegard of Bingen was a 12th Century abbess who founded a Benedictine order and is known for her herbal remedies, her music and her meditations. Carol Lyon will lead us in Centering Prayer meditations from the writings of Hildegard. March 15: Drawing Closer to Jesus with St. Hildegard von Bingen, Week 2. Carol Lyon will lead us in a second week of Centering Prayer based on the Meditations of St. Hildegard of Bingen. March 22: Drawing Closer to Jesus Via The Way of the Cross. Led by Judy Handy. If there is a problem because of weather, the leader will sent an email out to Grace Leaders by 9:30 am of the morning of the session.

Thanks to ... ... Don Wake and Bob Jones for stripping and refinishing the floor in the Small Assembly Room, with a special thanks to Don who stayed late Thursday night so it could be done in time to dry for Tai-Chi on Friday.
... Don Wake for his many contributions to Grace Church. He hasn't even been attending for a year yet, and already he has volunteered so much that there are people who mistakenly belief he is on our payroll. His great dedication to his volunteer work within Grace Church is awe-inspiring.
... everyone who helps with the community dinner, whether you are heavily involved or just came to eat and talk with our visitors. Thanks to Life Renewal Church's Pastor Rita Bryant and Grace Church's J. White for keeping this dream that started with them alive. Thanks to Robin and those who assist her for coming up with a menu and making it happen.
... to everyone who assisted with Parolee Day, specifically thanks to Mary McLain and Ruth Bertram their work in the kitchen, and to Bob Jones for getting breakfast and supervising the parolees while they were here.
...
Sam Spade for her work in preparing Grace Church's Lenten Series: Drawing Closer to Jesus and for teaching the first classes.
Even though everyone who does something special might not get special recognition each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going. Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions. None of us could do it unless all of us were working together like we are.

Selected Short Subjects
Roger and Belinda Perna write:
Our next Interfaith Hospitality Network date is Friday, March 8th at the College Hill Presbyterian Church. To date, we still need the following: dessert and salad (to feed about 20 people--preferably home baked/prepared), and two people to do activities with the children.
We usually bring brownies, but whatever inspires you would be fine, too. A lovely tossed salad or fruit salad or both would go nicely with the dinner. As for activities for the children, we have two suitcases full of board games, puzzles, etc. that can be used. Honestly, the children mostly just seem to thrive on the attention we give them.
Upcoming dates (all on Fridays) are: April 19, June 1, Sept 6, Nov 15. Please prayerfully consider helping in any way you can to minister to these families. They truly appreciate our endeavors.
Rhonda Sharp writes:
Manna from Heaven Outreach Inc of Myra KY is a legitimate outreach from the same area my family is from. April 13 is their Community Day, during which they give out everything that a family would need to plat and care for a garden. If Grace Church people would like to donate garden seeds, I would be happy to mail them to them at my expense.
Ralph and Lois Tackett provide more information about Manna from Heaven: We are a non-profit Christian organization that is 501-c3 certified. Located in Myra KY, we help with any and everything people need. We serve about 150 families a week, and give out food, clothes, furniture, cleaning supplies, bibles, and anything else that can help the people in our area.
Normally in a year we have 3 major events. Our Community day, which we give out everything that a family would need to plat and care for a garden, The Back to School give out, where we help families get the supplies for kids that are going to school, and our Christmas give out, where we give presents, food, clothes and everything else needed to help people have a wonderful Christmas. At all these give outs we have no less than about 2500 people every year. That of course is not including the normal 150 families we serve weekly.
Thank you and God bless you.
