It's Easter! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluias return to the liturgy as Grace Church celebrates Jesus' resurrection Sunday.
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
An Easter Egg Hunt follows worship. Virginia Chapel reminds children to bring their baskets and parents to bring their cameras.
Flowers on the high altar were given by John Thayer in loving memory of his parents, Helaine and John Thayer, and by Leah Wilson in loving memory of her parents Eunice and David Wilson. Flowers on the Peace Chapel altar were given ay Sam Spade to the Glory of God.  Spring potted plants were given by Wanda Miller and Ken & Carol Lyon.
Bishop Ken Price Visits Grace

Retired Bishop Ken Price celebrated Palm/Passion Sunday at Grace Church last Sunday.

Lunch followed in the Great Hall, during which the bishop enjoyed getting first cut of a cake decorated with his visage.

Several members expressed gratitude in behalf of Grace Church for the support Bishop Price gave us a few years back when Grace Church was at a low point. They credited him with Grace's resurgence.
Community Good Friday Service Brings "Real Preaching" to Grace Church

The annual Community Good Friday Service, sponsored by the College Hill Ministerium, brought preachers from local Churches to Grace Church for this traditional service. Those present were treated to what some called "real preaching" on the seven last words of Christ from the cross.

The service featured preaching by Rita Bryant (Life Renewal Discipleship Church), Ken Lyon (Grace Episcopal Church), Michael Childs (Trinity Episcopal Church, Hamilton), Karen Johnson (College Hill Presbyterian Church), Eugene Ellington (Consolation Baptist Church), Dan Weyand-Geise (First United Church of Christ), and Todd O'Neal (House of Joy Christian Ministries).

Thanks to ...

... Katie Humphrey for helping the office volunteers to resolve a problem with sending out the bulletin electronically to service volunteers.

... Don Wake for pitching in above and beyond the call of duty this past week when Bob was ill. He really kept things going for all of us in the building and on the grounds. Thank you especially for all the work you did on the lights in the Great Hall on Friday.

... everyone who participated in Parolee Day on Thursday. Although we are grateful to everyone who helped, a special thank you to our chef, Mary McLain, for always being so willing to share her special gift of cooking whenever it is needed. Thank you also to Ruth for sharing her special gift of organizing and making sure all remains tidy.

... everyone who volunteered to get ready for and were involved in our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services, especially to Roger Perna for the beautiful bulletin he did for the Good Friday services.

... everyone who volunteered to assist with the Community Dinner last Wednesday with a special thanks to Robin and all of her kitchen staff for cooking, J. White and Pastor Rita/Life Renewal Church for always coordinating it and to Don Wake who set up the room for us, and to Bread Basket Bakery for their continued donations of bread and baked goods. But, please do not think that these special thank yous mean we do not appreciate the contribution of everyone. We would not be able to do this every week were it not for all contributions no matter how small or how big.

Even though everyone who does something special might not get special recognition each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it unless all of us were working together like we are.
The Great Hall has been Relit

Thanks to Don Wake, the institutional-style hanging fluorescent lights have been removed from the Great Hall, and the original ceiling lights have been reinstalled. The result is a little less light, but a whole lot nicer look. Drop by the Great Hall and take a look!

Mission Council needs a clerk. The job of the clerk is basically to keep minutes of meetings of Mission Council. This could be a good job for someone who wants to get involved at Grace Church, but doesn't have a lot of time and/or knowledge of the congregation (yet). The job requires someone who can take minutes and put them in electronic form so they can be sent out to Mission Council members. The time requirement is a few hours a month. Mission Council meets on the third Monday of every month from 5pm to about 6:30pm. If you're interested, or know of someone who might be interested, contact David Mukasa at (513) 616-4320.

We have received about 50 Episcopal Shield stickers for your car windows or wherever else you want to put them, complements of the Diocese.  They are on the table near the upper Belmont entrance. Enjoy!

Web-connected thermostats have been installed throughout the building, to make it easier to change the heating schedule to match the use of the rooms. If you should ever hear of a time when a room was not heated when it was scheduled to be used, please contact Ken Lyon, 513-382-6401.

Prayers and Thanksgivings

Prayers of praise and thanksgiving are offered ...

...  by Leah Wilson:  Thanks to the congregation for their prayers and to God for answered prayers. Leah Wilson's daughter, Amanda, had a beautiful 6 lb 12 oz baby girl on March 15 with no complications. Thanks to every one for praying for Amanda when she was undergoing tests for a possible health condition shortly before the delivery

... by Rhonda Sharp: Thank you all for your many prayers for my husband, David (DL). He had one more improvement in an ongoing health condition that has endangered his diabetes. He is not out of the woods and still needs prayers, but this improvement was dramatic enough that I know it was an answer to prayer as I would have never expected it to happen the way it did. Thank you for your prayers in the past and for your continued prayers in the future, and thank God for this answered prayer.

Prayers for healing are asked for Judy Handy, Rev. Ernestein, Patty Rogers and the Rogers Family, Ken Lyon, Carl, Jackie, Robb Martin, Kim Martin, Melissa, Jordan and Brandie, Bill and Viola, Lee Hardy, Christine Hicks, Derek, Rhonda Sharp, The Partin Family, Mitchell, Bob, Jo Jo, Jared, Shirley L. Godly Leadership in the Face of Violence

The Episcopal Church House of Bishops, meeting in retreat in Kanuga Conference Center, Hendersonville, NC, offers the following Word to the Church.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Your House of Bishops has gathered in retreat from March 8-12 at Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC.  The theme for our days together has been "Godly Leadership in the Midst of Loss."  We have heard moving reflections on loss in the wake of: the shootings in Newtown, Hurricane Sandy, the ongoing struggles in Haiti, historical trauma experienced by Native Americans in South Dakota, and physical illness.  Being together in conversation, prayer and common worship, we have shared the reality of new life in the resurrected Jesus who has overcome death and redeems our losses.

Our time together has brought us to a new place of recognition with respect to how violence infects, and affects, our lives.  We have considered how the reality of violence in our world, our society, our churches, our homes, and ourselves alienate us from God and each other.  And we repent that we have too often neglected to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation.  In this Lenten season we pray:  "Accept our repentance, Lord, for the wrongs we have done: for our blindness to human need and suffering, and our indifference to injustice and cruelty."  (From the Litany of Penance for Ash Wednesday, BCP p. 268)
