Jackie Tells Us a Story
Last issue, we asked folks to send in their stories about their experience of Grace Church. Jackie Millay sent us this: Here's my happy tale of evolving involvement, growth, and connection with the Grace Episcopal community. In April of 2010, I needed to take a medical leave from teaching. Slowly, I was able to attend the second Wednesday Healing/Drumming Ceremony. As this became more of a habit, I grew in confidence with my healing abilities, made many new friends, and relaxed into the comforting welcome that came with being connected with the Grace Community.
Eventually, Hawley Todd asked me to be one of the Grace Leaders. I marveled at the diverse openness of the Grace Leaders group as I looked into this offer from Hawley. I accepted that invitation, and even posted one of my first internet pictures! This was a brave move for me.
After this, I began 'playing around' with the idea of teaching a TaiChi/ChiKung class at Grace. I asked Hawley what he thought. Again, a welcome positive response was given. About nine months later, in August of 2012, I offered my first TaiChi/ChiKung workshop. I've been happily offering classes at Grace since then. Also, our small band of long-time 'TaiChi' players also found an 'open door' at Grace when we needed a space on Sundays during the colder months.
As I've recovered from a tragic dynamic in my personal family, through the kindnesses of the Grace community, I have loosened the 'heaviness' of that past. I understand experientially, Christ's wonderful words, "Behold, I make all things new."
I feel the newness of the lighter, more joyful side of myself. What could be better than that?
Great gratitude to the wide range of loving hearts that are a part of Grace Episcopal.
Jackie Millay We encourage you to share your stories for publication here. Send 'em to egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org. Wondering what to write about? Here's an idea: If you're relatively new to Grace, tell about why you came to Grace; if you've been around a while, tell about why you stay at Grace; if you went away and came back, well, tell that story. Prayer & Meditation Group Continues
The Prayer & Meditation group that started up in Lent continues to meet every Friday at 11am for an hour. Laurie LeClaire sent us this description of the May 10 session.
Six of us participated in a discussion of what "grace" means in our lives.
I opened with a short prayer and some readings about "grace" and its definitions as well as reference to scriptures.
Gary Armstrong brought some powerful insights into the need to incorporate daily affirmations in our lives, the need to not prejudge another, the need to ask for forgiveness, and also to put the intention of love towards others. He discussed how everything is alive at the atomic level, bringing up a discussion of quantom physics.
Others shared how hard it is to rid themselves of hurt feelings even after they thought they had forgiven others. We discussed how important it
was to start each day being thankful for three things in each of our lives and how that would set the intention for the day.
We all thanked Gary for his insights and closed by reading aloud the five verses
of "Amazing Grace".
I am grateful for the participation of all those present. We all seemed to have
benefited by setting aside the time on this rainy Friday in May.
In Christian fellowship, Laurie

Send your "thank you's" to egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org. Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going. Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions. None of us could do it without all of us working together. |

Prayers and Thanksgivings Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving are offered by Rhonda Sharp for repeatedly bringing into my life over this past year people who helped me better understand some situations from my past. They helped me realize that it was not only right for me to rise above those situations, but that it was God who helped me do that. I also grew to understand that it was God who sent many messengers to me this past year to verify that I had made the right choice when separating myself from those situations. I'd also like to thank God that things went well in a medical appointment and to thank him as I know he will be walking with me over the next few weeks and months as I seek healing.
