Pentecost Service Has Lively Music, Dance

A larger-than-usual congregation participated enthusiastically in May 19's Pentecost service.  It featured rhythmic African songs accompanied by exuberant drumming, a liturgical dance, a bell solo and prayers in eight languages. A well-provisioned and -attended Snack 'n Chat followed the service.

Congratulations to all involved!
Benefit Concert Coming to Grace Wednesday

The Price Hill String Quartet will present a concert at Grace Church on Wednesday, June 5th, at 7 PM to benefit Freedom to Marry Ohio.

Performed in a space designed by the architects of Music Hall, this will be an hour-long concert of contemporary music composed by Cincinnati native Peter Dayton. The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to contribute whatever they can, and the proceeds will go directly to Freedom to Marry Ohio.

Freedom to Marry is a national organization leading the campaign to overturn DOMA, to win gay marriage rights, and educate the public about why marriage matters to same-sex couples and their families.

The Price Hill String Quartet, founded in 2012, is a classical chamber ensemble that offers a new model for community engagement and youth development. Acting on the idea that every neighborhood should have a professional string quartet, the PHSQ aims to make classical music performance and education an integral part of life and culture in Price Hill.

Peter Dayton (BA Music, Vanderbilt University 2012) is a composer of solo, chamber, and large ensemble music. His music has been performed across the U.S. and internationally. His works exploring the connections between music and visual art have been acclaimed by internationally-renowned artists such as Fernando de Szyszlo and John Hitchens, and by the estate of Cincinnati's own Charley Harper.

Thanks to Bob and Don Wake for set up and take down work they did and for supervising the parolees. Thanks to Mary, Grace and Ruth Bertram for cleaning up the kitchen area. And, thanks to the Parolees and their Parole Officer for being here to assist Grace Church on that day.

... John Thayer his beautiful handbell presentation in last Sunday's service.

... everyone who has helped Rhonda Sharp get the Grace Church Calendar put back together after it caught a virus or whatever happened to it. Please continue to help me nurse it back to health. If you notice anything is not correct, please contact me in the office at 513-541-2415 or office@gracecollegehill.org.

...Hawley Todd for his support and help for Rhonda Sharp on the office's Administrative Binder and on the Prayer Log. She also wants to thank him for the times he has been there for me to help her through difficult situations and learning curves.
... Jacque Johnson for how motivated she has been about the Prayer Shawl ministry. She is crocheting a prayer shawl a week for us. Her enthusiasm is contagious.

... everyone who is knitting prayer shawls. Our prayer shawl ministry members are heroes to the people who receive the shawls and are wrapped in their prayers during times of need.

Send your "thank you's" to egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
Selected Short Subjects

The Prayer Shawl Knitting group meets this Thursday at 7pm. The group meets once a month to pray over shawls that have been knitted between meetings, to knit new shawls as well as socialize. You do not need to know how to knit to participate--those who know how are eager to teach you. Prayer shawls are blessed by a priest and then are distributed by the Pastoral Care Team.

May 22's Community Dinner featured the New School Montesori Orchestra playing to a full house.  All the tables were full of appreciative listeners.  And the food (breakfast at dinnertime) was good, too.

You can support tornado victims through Episcopal Relief & Development's website at episcopalrelief.org

Just a reminder to check the Grace Church Calendar at gracecollegehill.org to make sure the events you know about are on it. We've had some problems with our calendar technology and have lost some events.

David Mukasa reports that Fr. Hufford is in good spirits and that his toe is healing slowly. He sends his love and regards to the entire congregation and says he misses us all.

Grace Church has wifi, so you can tweet during services (just kidding-we hope). Our wifi hotspots are named either gechurch or gechurch1. Use whichever gives the stronger signal where you are. The passcode is gracesaves.
