A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

Prayer & Meditation Group Writes a Collect

Grace's Prayer & Mediation group meets every Friday at 11 am with a different member leading the group in a spiritual exploration.  Last Friday, Ken Lyon led the group in writing a prayer in collect form. This is what the group created for itself:

O God, who is the creator of all that was, that is and that will be--who dwells within us. We're all in different places on our spiritual journey. We give thanks that Grace's doors of hospitality remain open so that we may learn and grow together as a group. We pray through the Holy Spirit within us. Amen.

"What's a collect?" you may ask.  A collect a loose structure that virtually all of the many short prayers in the Book of Common Prayer follow. There are many resources on the web that tell how a collect is constructed, just Google "collect prayer form" (without the quotes).  Then try writing one yourself--you may be pleasantly surprised at the result!

Anne Henneberg Donates Interesting Bible

Long-time member Anne Henneberg has recently donated a very old and interesting Family Pictorial Bible published by Oxford Press in 1895.

The bible, which is about 8 inches thick and bound with silver clasps, contains many commentaries, tables, an index of bible stories in the various books of the bible, drawings of plants mentioned in the bible, an interior drawing of the temple at Jerusalem, etc., in addition to illustrations on almost every page of scripture.  It is truly a "bible encyclopedia."

It is available in the downstairs chapel for perusal and inspection by anyone who is curious. We urge everyone to stop by on the way to Snack and Chat to have a look.

Jane Strohmeier and Lex Attend Pilot Dog (and Owners') School Reunion

Jane Strohmeier traveled to Columbus on June 14th (her birthday) so she and her dog, Lex, could attend the annual three-day reunion of  the Pilot School. Jane and Lex graduated in 2006 and Lex will celebrate his eighth birthday on June 21.

About 70 participants attended the reunion for trainers, alumni and their pilot dogs. The three-day event featured a banquet and speaker, an obedience course contest and of course lots of stories from owners about their dogs.
Wanted:  Photographer for Integrity at the Pride Parade
As many may know, Integrity Cincinnati, a group of GBLT Episcopalians is going through a revival.  They recently had their first meeting at Grace. They would like to find someone who is willing to act as the "designated photographer" for Integrity for this event. Anyone with an interest should contact Brother Mike at integritycincy@gmail.com

... the Executive Committee, Ken Lyon and Hawley Todd for taking time to review the office's Administrative Procedures Binder and assist Rhonda Sharp in determining the best ways to update it. She would especially like to thank Hawley Todd for spending a great deal of time with her helping me to coordinate everyone's suggestions and come up with the best way to compile them and distribute this information to the congregation.

Send your "thank you's" to egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
