Cool Worship!

Beginning this week--June 30th, through September 1st--our Sunday worship services will be in the air-conditioned Great Hall.
Out of consideration for our resources (both time and materials) as well as for a bit of a change of pace, much as we did last summer, here are a few things to note:
  • though we'll still have a bulletin, some of the prayers will be projected on the screen, and not printed;
  • the Lessons will be read by the Lector (not printed in the bulletin, nor put on the screen) so we will be able to just listen, or bring our own bible (regardless of translation) for following along;
  • we will learn at least a couple of new hymns;
  • for now, we will use hymnals (instead of reading from the screen);
  • we will still have Bible Study before the service, and Snack 'n Chat following--both in the cooler Great Hall.
We appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we adjust to this summer format.

Judy Handy
Thanks to ...

... everyone who was involved in the Community Dinner in any way last Wednesday. We heard rave reviews from some of our visitors--they  loved having the movie as part of the dinner. Thanks go to everyone who planned, set up, cooked, cleaned, entertained, etc. These dinners are becoming a highlight of our church. Thanks to J. White and Pastor Rita for giving birth to this wonderful idea.

... David Mukasa for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit people who are ill in the congregation and to take them prayer shawls when that is one of their needs. Several people have expressed how much they appreciate your visits.

... Wanda Miller, who contributed to Hawley Todd's birthday party earlier this month, with apologies for not including her in the thank-you's for this event earlier.

 Market Money Program Needs $$$ to Provide More Nutritious Food Locally

A juicy, ripe tomato in the summertime; the crisp, wholesome taste of an ear of sweet corn in August; freshly harvested green beans that fill your mouth with flavor and satisfaction--buying fresh produce is something many of us take for granted. Without a doubt, there is an abundance of fresh food that can be found in College Hill. But there is also hunger. There are men, women and children in College Hill who are malnourished due to low income, unreliable transportation, and a lack of healthy, affordable food. We are asking for your contribution to help us address the problems of hunger and poor health facing our community.

We, Christ's Community Food Pantry, the College Hill Ministerium, and College Hill Farm Market, are seeking funding for a program we're calling Market Money in order to give everyone in our neighborhood the opportunity to eat healthy while staying within their budget. With the money we raise, Christ's Community will distribute coupons to their food pantry visitors to be used at the College Hill Farm Market when they spend any amount with their SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) card. Our fundraising goal is $3,000. That would provide 300 low-income families with an extra $10 each to spend on healthy items at the farmers market. Not only does this money help underserved College Hill residents, it helps the small-scale farmers and producers who sell at the market and keeps those dollars in our local economy. This is a pilot project designed and implemented by Christ's Community, the College Hill Ministerium, and College Hill Farm Market; the results will be monitored and used to enhance the program's success for the following season.

If you have questions about Market Money or would like to learn more about healthy food access, please contact Casey Henry at casey.henry@pcusa.org

We have a suggested donation level of $100, which is equivalent to the average cost of meals for a family of three for one week. However, we welcome whatever donation is in your budget-every dollar helps! Checks can be made out to Christ's Community of College Hill and placed in the offering at Grace Church or sent to the office.  Or you can donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml, specifying "Market Money."

Should you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact Tom Fehr at tjfehr@gmail.com or (513) 312-2614. Integrity says they appreciate the work of Brother Michael Childs to create energy and activity in Cincinnati, but has elected to decline his service in any leadership capacity.

Donations Put Flowers on the Altar

Flowers on the altar are one thing that make our worship special.  Your donations make them possible.  Flowers may be dedicated to honor people (living or dead), organizations or events of your choice.

To donate altar flowers on the Sunday of your choosing, see the sign-up sheet in the church near the upper Belmont entrance. Or call the office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.
