Healing Service Coming Wednesday

It's time again for Grace Church's monthly Celebration of Wholeness and Healing this coming Wednesday evening starting at 7 pm.

Here's what Gwynne Gabbard has to say about her experience of this service.

Several years ago Gary Armstrong, a precious friend, invited me to Grace Episcopal Church for a drumming and healing service. I thought that sounded pretty special.  Well, that was surely a correct judgement on my part.

The folks that gathered there began drumming, then quieted, some fellow spoke a few minutes, the drumming began again, and then I got to use Reiki for folks who got down on a quilt on the floor. To lay hands on them we were on our knees on the hard floor. A couple months later, one of the fellows from the Reiki Group held at my house brought me a memory foam mattress. I cut it and put half on our healing table at my house. The other half looked like it could make good knee cushions for that group at Grace Episcopal, and it does.

We have expanded over these few years to a quilt on the floor, two healing tables, occasionally three, sometimes somebody in a chair, some folks at the altar. If Patches is there he puts his wolf skin on the quilt so you can lie on that.

During the evening as we lay hands on folks, there is the exquisite drumming, flute playing, rattles of different kinds. People sometimes dance to the drumming. Everybody's angels are in abundance the whole evening. Someone nearly always brings healing stones from Mother Earth, and that fellow who speaks. Hawley Todd, never, ever says "You have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God!!" Our Creator always gives him something to talk about that we can think over that night and later on, too.

We sing an African song of welcome each month as Bob Laake, Master Drummer, gets the nod from Hawley to begin the drumming, and these amazing drummers keep rhythms going and going and going and going, while drummers and non drummers take turns to gather at the healing stations to give or receive Energy from our Blessed Creator.

Bob brings a ton of drums so that anyone can sit and drum when they feel like doing so. We invite heavenly presences and they are there, a multitude, bringing unconditional love to us. The Lord's Prayer we say together is different from what we learned as children, but lovely.

We are told, each month, that we can arrive when we want to and leave when we need to. People arrive and leave all evening. The love in that sanctuary is omnipotent. Although time flies nowadays, the weeks between the second Wednesday of each month are soooooo long that it's hard to wait. Each month is amazing, wonderful, uplifting, comforting, with hugs and laughter to share.

If you haven't been there yet, you need to be there.

Remembering

Remember that special someone who helped you when you needed it the most? You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor or in memory of them.

After the service, you may take the flowers home and give them to that special someone or you may leave them on the altar for the other services to enjoy.

The suggested donation is only $35. All the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.

The flowers on the altar last Sunday were given in celebration of Pete Staples' 90th birthday by Grace Staples.

  Thanks to ...

... everyone for your hard work preparing the Great Hall for Sunday services each week.

... everyone who helped with June's Parolee Day, and thanks to the Parolees and all who helped them dig up the old walkway between the parking lot and the lower Belmont door. Thanks also to David Mukasa who will be helping to put in a real sidewalk.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.
Selected Short Subjects

Education for Ministry starts up again at Grace Church this Fall under the mentorship of Hawley Todd.  Graduates of this four-year program of study of and reflection on scripture, church history and theology report that it's a life-enhancing experience.  For more information, contact Hawley Todd (513-967-6581 or todd@episcopalhealing.org).

Take Control of Your Donations.  We would like to help others, but how can we contribute money in a thoughtful and satisfying manner consistent with our personal goals? How can my family assemble a plan we all support? Are the charitable organizations we have in mind worthy of our gifts? You can get answers to these questions without pressure or a sales pitch at a Donating with Confidence dinner & meeting on August 2 at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church in College Hill. For more information call Gene Gardner at 513-681-2794 or send an email to  GeneGard24@aol.com. Reservations are needed and space is limited.
