Grace Church's "Christmas in August" Wish List

Although it isn't Christmas, Grace church is starting a wish list for the items and materials we would like to have now but just aren't in this year's budget. You may have these items around the house and don't need anymore or maybe you're willing to pick up an extra when buying something you need.

For the kitchen, we wish we had the following items that we could especially use for the community dinners.

  • Soup Pots, especially with lids
  • 12 inch frying pan or bigger. We're cooking for a lot of people.
  • Refrigerator to store the food for the day or two before it is cooked.
  • Freezer to store food for the longer term.

For the office, we wish we had the following items:

  • More pens
  • More pencils
  • More 8 ½ by 11 inch paper, especially white
  • 8½ by 11 photo paper--25 to 50 sheets would be wonderful. We want to use photos for the Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Roll of stamps to send out Annual Giving Campaign letters

For landscaping we wish we had the following items:

  • 15 Clematis vines for the Garth, preferably in red, pink or blue.
  • Perennials for the upper Belmont gardens--preferably deer resistant--like Gaillardia, Rubekia, Dahlias, and ground cover like Ajuga for the triangle by the parking lot door.

If you have any of these items to donate or if you have gift cards we could use to buy them, you may bring them on Sunday mornings to church, Monday or Tuesday Mornings to the office or between 5 pm and 7 pm the evenings of the community dinner. If you have questions, or would like items picked up, please call Carol Lyon (513-919-0542, Spikelyon@gmail.com).

Building & Grounds Committee Figuring Stuff Out

Grace Church's Buildings and Grounds Committee, under the leadership of Junior Warden Wanda Miller, has been meeting weekly to prepare a plan for dealing the the most urgent maintenance issues. So far, the group's priorities are:
  1. Figure out what to do to keep our roofs from leaking, both short and long term.  Options range from very expensive complete roof replacements to less expensive (and less long-lasting) repairs.
  2. Figure out what to do about three large dead trees that present some danger of falling down.
  3. Figure out what needs to be done to repair fallen wood screens in the tower.
  4. Figure out what needs to be done so that the Great Hall's air conditioning system can keep up in the summer and the heating system can keep up in the winter.

The whole list is longer than this, but these are the items that are occupying most of the committee's time.  If you'd like to help the committee, or have ideas for them, contact Wanda Miller. Or simply attend their next meeting Wednesday, August 7, at 3pm at the church.

Selected Short Subjects

The Annual Giving Campaign Committee, consisting of Carol Lyon, Wanda Miller, Grace Staples and J. White has begun meeting to plan for this year's campaign. They have chosen as their theme "Faith in Action." Look for more information coming soon.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
Take the Bishop's Survey on Racial Profiling

Following Trayvon's death in Sanford, Florida, Bishop Thomas E. Breidenthal and the Diocese of Southern Ohio authorized a multi-faceted study on racial profiling. We have collected 1,167 responses from congregations alone. Our goal is 2,000 responses.

It is now time to hear specifically from the people of this diocese, whatever your race or ethnicity, wherever you stand on the spectrum of those who have been profiled or those who have found themselves profiling others.

Participate in this brief, anonymous survey at surveymonkey.com/s/VP7K8RW.
Remembering

Remember that special someone who helped you when you needed it the most? You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor or in memory of them.

After the service, you may take the flowers home and give them to that special someone or you may leave them on the altar for the other services to enjoy.

The suggested donation is only $35. All the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.
