There are THREE Community Dinners Now

Three free Community Dinners will now be served at Grace Church each month, on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of every month, starting at 5pm.

That's because Truth & Destiny Covenant Ministries UCC Church will now serve a free Community Dinner at Grace Episcopal Church on the third Wednesday of every month starting in August. Grace Episcopal Church and Life Renewal Church will continue to serve on the second and forth Wednesdays.

Truth & Destiny is located at 663 Kirby Avenue in Northside. You can read more about this church on their website here:  truthdestinychurch.org.

The next dinner is this coming Wednesday. You invited to join in the fellowship at these free Community Dinners, whether you can afford to pay or not. Serving starts at 5pm, now on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of every month.

In the next several issues, we'll be featuring examples of ways that the faith of our members and friends has translated into action.
We Give Thanks for the Gifts of Those Who Have Gone Before Us

I was talking to someone the other day who made me realize how much the chair lift is being used these days by our members, by other groups and by those who attend special performances. It also enables us to rent as a handicapped accessible facility.

The chairlift was given about 20 years ago by a tiny, energetic member, Mavis Judd. Mavis was an instructor of nursing at one of the schools. Her husband, Bob, was a social worker. But Mavis, who later developed MS, wanted to make sure that this gift was entirely from her, including the installation.

Mavis died in 1999 at the age of 78. I don't know if she could have envisioned the many years and the many people she knew then that the chair would serve. And it will for many years to come.

May God bless now and in His kingdom all those who share so generously for the benefit of the church.

Wishes Do Come True!
Last week we published a wish list of items we need for Grace Church but aren't in the budget. We received pens and photo paper. We have a promise of a gift card from Home Depot, and two gifts of  perennials.

Thank you! Thank You!

We still need soup pots with lids, 12 inch or larger frying pans, a refrigerator and a freezer for the kitchen.

It takes money to raise money. To that end we still need 81/2 x 11 inch paper, preferably white and 100 stamps for the Annual Giving Campaign.

For the garth, we need 15 clematis. If they could get here before the parolees come--the last Thursday of the month--that would be great.

If you have any of these items to donate or if you have gift cards we could use to buy them, you may bring them on Sunday mornings to church, Monday or Tuesday Mornings to the office or between 5 pm and 7 pm the evenings of the community dinner. If you have questions, or would like items picked up, please call Carol Lyon (513-919-0542, Spikelyon@gmail.com).

Thanks to ...

... Hawley Todd for donating a bunch of pens from our wish list.

... Ken & Carol Lyon for donating photo paper from our wish list.

... Holly Pratt for donating a gift card for Home Depot.

... Grace Staples for donating some perennials to plant outside the church.

... Jackie Millay for donating some hostas to plant outside the church.

...  Carol Lyon for leading last Friday's Prayer & Meditation Group.

... Everyone who comes in to prepare the Great Hall for our worship each week.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
Remembering

Remember that special someone who helped you when you needed it the most? You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor or in memory of them.

After the service, you may take the flowers home and give them to that special someone or you may leave them on the altar for the other services to enjoy.

The suggested donation is only $35. All the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.

Last Chance to Sign Up for Education for Ministry

There are several spots left in the Education for(mation) Ministry class that starts September 9. The class is open to anyone who wants to learn more about their own faith and belief systems. The operative word is YOUR.

We do that through a process of coming together every Monday night (September through May) from 7 to 9:30 pm. It is a small group study and reflection process.

It includes worship and fellowship and snacks!

Year one students study the Hebrew Bible and the other years study New Testament, Church History, Ethics and interfaith dialogue.

There is a whole new program this year so any of you who have graduated may want to come back and join us. Graduates may repeat any year you choose!

Cost is $350 but I can help with tuition if you need it.

I am trying to finish up registrations this week. So if you want to join or learn more, act fast!!!!!
