A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

Our Values
Quick Links

In the next several issues, we'll be featuring examples of ways that the faith of our members and friends has translated into action.
We Give Thanks for the Gifts of Those Who Have Gone Before Us

l remember the first time Fr. Melton wore the RED cape in the procession on a Sunday morning in 1994. Fr. Melton appeared to almost float down the aisle! At that Pentecost Service the RED cape seemed to be representative of the fire of the HOLY SPIRIT!

Thanks to Doug Matthews and his family the RED cape has found its way back to GRACE. This past Pentecost Fr. Howard wore it and he too seemed to be lighter on his feet.

The RED cape, like the chair lift given by others who have passed on, continues be a part of this place called GRACE where the HOLY SPIRIT dwells.

Thanks to J White for the article and for modeling the cape.

Whittling Down

We are whittling down the wish list.  This week David and Maria Mukasa donated a refrigerator and office paper.  Jackie Millay has donated photo paper as well as hostas and some other perennials for the landscaping.  Judd Klusmeyer from Rooted Design got 17 Clematis at a wholesale price that Ken and Carol Lyon purchased and donated for the Garth.  Anni M. Gibson has donated stamps for the Annual Giving Campaign.  What generous donors we have!

All that is left on the list are for the kitchen:

  • 1 freezer
  • Large soup pot preferably with a lid
  • 12 inch or larger skillet

If you have any of these items to donate or if you have gift cards we could use to buy them, you may bring them on Sunday mornings to church, Monday or Tuesday Mornings to the office or between 5 pm and 7 pm the evenings of the Community Dinner. If you have questions, or would like items picked up, please call Carol Lyon (513-919-0542, Spikelyon@gmail.com).

Save The Dates for Two Kick-offs for the Annual Giving Campaign

and

Sunday, September 15, after 10 am Worship

Thanks to ...

... all those who contributed to a baby shower gift for the soon-to-arrive daughter of members Tammy Robertson and Lisa Perry.

... Malcolm Dunn of Christ Church Cathedral for coming in to help us get our books in order.

... the several people who are responding to a call for school supplies for the son of a young mother who came to the church last week.

... Carol Lyon for leading the Prayer & Meditation group again Friday.

... the folks who have donated items on our wish list (see above).

... members of Truth & Destiny Church for coming Wednesday to help out with the Community Dinner. As mentioned earlier, they will be hosting the dinner next Wednesday.

... Anthony Canady and friend for helping bring in the donated refrigerator.

... Charlie Parker for bringing bread for the Community Dinner.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.

Selected Short Subjects

Mission Council meets Monday at 5pm. On the agenda will be a report from the Building & Grounds Committee on needed repairs.  Also, consideration of the following as our invitation to communion:  "All who seek God, and are drawn to Christ, are welcome at Christ's table."

Our officiant for August 25 will be The Rt. Rev. Benjamin Omosebi.

A celebration of the life and ministry of Bishop William Grant Black will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. All are invited to attend.  The Rt. Rev. William Grant Black, Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Ohio, died July 7 at the age of 93 from complications of Parkinson's Disease.  A memorial blog has been set up for folks to share their favorite memories or anecdotes of Bishop Black. Add your memories at MemoriesOfBishopBlack.com.

The Grace Church Online Photo Album has been updated recently with some of our newer members and friends. You can see the album by clicking here, or by going to the Grace Church website and clicking on the Photo Albums link on the left side of the page. Gentleness vs Harshness

This month, keep your eyes open for signs of gentleness in yourself and others.  Then tap into your gentle nature when you have to hold a difficult conversation with a work  associate, correct a child, or deliver some bad news.  With gentleness, we can soothe those who are hurting, nurture our relationships, and cradle those we love.

To practice Gentleness,  I will ...

... focus on others more and less on myself.

... choose my words carefully.

... look for ways to heal the hurts of others.

... avoid blaming.

... be a peacemaker.

"Gentleness is able to accomplish what violence cannot."   - Claudian

Remembering

Remember that special someone who helped you when you needed it the most? You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor or in memory of them.

After the service, you may take the flowers home and give them to that special someone or you may leave them on the altar for the other services to enjoy.

The suggested donation is only $35. All the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.
