A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

Our Values
Quick Links

In the next several issues, we'll be featuring examples of ways that the faith of our members and friends has translated into action.
Grace Flows Banner: Faith in Action
A few years ago, members of Grace participated in a diocesan event where each parish represented was to be identified by a colorful banner. Carol Lyon remembers thinking that the one we had at that time was "underwhelming."

She thought we could do better and she enlisted Mary McLain's help to design a colorful new banner that we could carry proudly in future events. Mary took the lead designing and Carol did the bulk of the piecing, sewing and quilting.

The resulting "Grace Flows" banner was not only a personal statement about how Mary and Carol felt about Grace Church, it was an outward expression of their inner faith and devotion to Jesus Christ and their gift to the Grace Community.

This is one of the many gifts of time, talent and treasure our parishioners donate day in and day out to Grace Church.

Do you have an example of Faith in Action you would like to share with us?  Please contact Sam Spade, gracefullsunangel@gmail.com.

Thanks to Sam Spade for this article.
Person Sought to Provide Child Care During Sunday Worship

We are seeking a person to provide child care during Sunday worship. If you know of someone with the skills to care for a few infants and very young children, please contact J White (513-532-9362, mizwone@gmail.com). This will be a paid position.

We realize that there may be Sundays when there are no children to care for, however we believe that it's very important that this service be provided for those parents who want it.
The List Dwindles Down to a Precious Few...

These items on the wish list are for the kitchen. The immediate use is for the Community Dinners:
  • 1 freezer
  • Large soup pot preferably with a lid

In addition, the office could use a one-hole punch.

If you have any of these items to donate or if you have gift cards we could use to buy them, you may bring them on Sunday mornings to church, Monday or Tuesday Mornings to the office or between 5 pm and 7 pm the evenings of the Community Dinner. If you have questions, or would like items picked up, please call Carol Lyon (513-919-0542, Spikelyon@gmail.com).

... those who prayed the last three weeks for the Saad family. Their family member who was missing after a recent Mosque bombing has been found and is safe and well.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.

Looking to Genes for the Secret to Happiness

Hawley Todd passed along a thought-provoking article from the August 25, 2013 issue of The New York Times Magazine.   It begins:
"Our genes may have a more elevated moral sense than our minds do, according to a new study of the genetic effects of happiness. They can, it seems, reward us with healthy gene activity when we're unselfish - and chastise us, at a microscopic level, when we put our own needs and desires first."

Living an Economics of Compassion: A biblical vision for sustaining local alternatives to an exploitative economy

Discerning the biblical vision for an alternative economics! Building a local movement of cooperative community!

Featuring Biblical scholar Walter Brueggemann and consultant Peter Block.

Walter Bruggemann
Peter Block

To realize an alternative economic vision, how do we broaden a spirit of local community and relationship to sustain the creativity, commitment and inclusiveness that makes possible an economics of compassion and justice?  In two events, Brueggemann will provide the theological foundation to assess our economic systems in light of biblical values of human dignity, community and justice, while Block will encourage practical models for sustaining a local alternative economic movement of relationship and collaboration.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Virtually all the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office. Or donate online at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml.

Clean Out Your Kids' Closets; Fill Up Children's Hospital's Clothing Closet

You may or may not know that Children's Hospital residential program has a "clothing closet" at Grace Episcopal Church that consists of donations for kids in the program. Many of our kids come to us from various placements, no family support and a lack of belongings.   I am working to fill it back up after many months of good use from our original donation surge.

If anyone has or knows anyone who has LIGHTLY worn/used clothing, shoes, jackets/coats, etc. please contact me to make arrangements. Please remember to only donate items that are adolescent or child styles and trends (i.e. American Eagle/Hot Topic/Old Navy vs. Banana Republic/JCrew). Of course, they need not to be name brands...just an example of trend preferences. No undergarments, socks, swimsuits please (eww).

Thank you for taking the time to consider this being a significant need for the children living here for many months.
