A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

Our Values
Quick Links
Why I Come to Church

It was a couple of Sundays ago. A cold wind was blowing. The rain was pouring down. I could understand why people would want to stay in the warm comfort of their home. Yet, I was discouraged when I saw so few people in church.

So, what was I doing there?

Since then I have wondered not only why I come on most Sundays but why others come. I checked out the internet.  These are a just a few of the reasons people say they come to church:

  • for spiritual growth
  • to love others and to be loved
  • to share news of our lives with old and new friends
  • to keep each other strong in our faith
  • to give and receive comfort
  • to learn about the Bible
  • to learn about God, Jesus and the Holy spirit
  • to fill the emptiness of their soul because they are hungry for God
  • to be prayed for
  • to have their big questions, aching doubts, paralyzing fears welcomed
  • to have hearts healed and souls fed.

I certainly could agree with these reasons. But why do I come to Grace church in particular?

  • First, it is the place where I find God.
  • Second, it is a place where I am accepted.
  • Third, it is a place where I have learned and continually learn about people different from me and that God loves us all.

If any of these reasons resonate with you, I hope I will see you next Sunday.

Thanks to Carol Lyon for this article.

Why do you come to Church?  Send us your thoughts!

No, We're Not Revisiting the 60's

Canned Fruit Needed for Christ's Community Thanksgiving Boxes
Grace Church has been asked by Christ's Community in College Hill to collect cans of fruit (fruit cocktail, peaches, pears, etc.) to be distributed in the Thanksgiving boxes that will be given out on Tuesday, November 26.  Please bring in any cans that you are able next Sunday, the 24th.  We will also take monetary donations towards the purchase of fruit.  You can donate online here.

If you have any questions, or if you would like us to come to your home to pick fruit, please call Roger Perna at 513-290-7309.  Thank you.
Selected Short Subjects

Needed for Grace Church's Community Dinner This Wednesday
  • YOU, to sign up with J White to serve for an hour or more at the Wednesday's Community Dinner--the one that Grace Church sponsors.  That's Wednesday, November 20, from 5 to 7pm.  Call J NOW at (513) 532-9362.
  • Fixins for the chicken gumbo that Grace Church will be preparing.  You can bring beans or chicken or anything else that goes into a gumbo.  If it's perishable put it in the new freezer at the end of the hallway in the education wing or in a refrigerator in the kitchen.

Now You Can Follow Us on Twitter

Carol Lyon, one of our delegates to the recent Diocesan convention, came home talking about how everyone at the convention was being encouraged to get on Twitter and tweet about the convention.  They were also encouraged to go home and encourage their local church to get with it, and see what Twitter might do for them.

So.....  Grace Church now has a Twitter account.  If you Tweet, please follow @GraceCincinnati.  And, while you're at it, you might follow our Diocese at @diosohio. See our Twitter page here:  twitter.com/GraceCincinnati.  While you're at it, "like" us on our Facebook page here:  facebook.com/gracecollegehill.

Healing Service Pictures Posted Online

Hawley Todd sent us some pictures of Wednesday's Healing Service, which have been added to the Grace Church online photo album. You can see these and other Healing Service pix here, or by going to the Grace Church website and clicking on the Photo Albums link.

Coats for Parolees

While working with the parolees in October, we noticed that none of them own a really warm winter coat. we thought that it would be a good idea to come up with come coats for them and give the coats to them when they come to work with us on November 21.

Any gently used (or new)  men's winter coats that you could donate to the cause would be welcomed.  We would also like to give each parolee a hooded sweatshirt or fleece vest in addition to a coat, so they would also be appreciated. Please bring these items to church; you can leave them in the Small Assembly Room.  You can also call Roger Perna (513-290-7309) and he would be happy to come to your home to pick up coats or sweatshirts.

We normally have 5-8 parolees working with us each time we meet.  Any additional coats could be distributed to those in need by Christ's Community in College Hill.

Thank you for your concern in this matter.  Sincerely, Roger Perna

Additional Signs Tell the Story of an Active Grace Community

We have some additional signage on the Belmont side of the church featuring the various groups that make Grace Church their home. We hope to accomplish a several things:

  • Show the public that Grace is alive and active.
  • Publicize the groups that are members of the Grace Community.
  • Reinforce a sense of membership in the Grace Community among those groups meeting at Grace.
  • Remind Grace Church members that we are more than just a Sunday morning happening--we are now part of a larger Grace Community.
We're missing a few organizations; their signs will be posted soon.

Thanks to ...

... the congregation from Rhonda Sharp for your prayers for my family as we faced some difficult situations over this past summer. One of those situations has been resolved. My husband has found a job after having experienced a layoff. The way it happened, I really feel it was God and attribute it to prayer.

.
.. everyone who will be preparing the Community Dinner Tuesday night and preparing, cooking, serving and cleaning up on Wednesday. What a great effort!

... Gwynne Gabbard for  the flower pens she made and donated to the office.

... J White from Jackie Millay for helping her out with Friday's Chi class.

... everyone who contributed to and attended the Healing Service on Wednesday night. A special thanks to Hawley for providing the liturgy and to Bob Laake for leading the drumming.

... everyone who worked to clean up the office this week. It looks great. A special thank you to Wanda for getting this started.

... Ken Lyon for creating Grace Church noteg cards for the office volunteers to use.

... Ken Lyon for putting up some bright new flags on the front of the church--just in time for the windstorm Sunday.

... Roger Perna for coordinating the voting setup in the Small Assembly Room earlier this month.

... Roger Perna and Rhonda Sharp for attending the Ohio Benefits Bank Training last week.

... Carol Lyon for completing two beautiful new prayer shawls and donating them at the Prayer Shawl Knitting Group meeting.

... everyone who helped prepare for the ECOT testing which occupied the Great Hall several mornings recently.

... Grace Staples from Anne Henneberg for delivering the bulletin and Grace Notes every Monday. She says she really looks forward to receiving them.

... everyone for being so thoughtful at her 100th birthday celebration, from Elizabeth Kelly.

...  J White for the hours she spends at the church planning and preparing for renters and special events. Due largely to her efforts, our facility is in use most days of the weeks by members of the Grace Community.  Thanks also to Don Wake and Anthony Canady for the preparation support they give.

Tell us when you know someone should be thanked for their contribution. Email egracenotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
Person Sought to Provide Child Care During Sunday Worship

We are seeking a person to provide child care during Sunday worship. If you know of someone with the skills to care for a few infants and very young children, please contact J White (513-532-9362, mizwone@gmail.com). This will be a paid position.

We realize that there may be Sundays when there are no children to care for, however we believe that it's very important that this service be provided for those parents who want it.
