New Grace Church Positions to be Filled at Annual Meeting on February 23

The Annual Meeting of Grace Episcopal Church will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, following Sunday worship. There will be lunch.

At the meeting, elections will be held to fill eight positions. Two of the positions are new--recently created by Mission Council.

Roger Perna and Wanda Miller are term-limited out of their positions as Senior and Junior Warden, so new people will be elected to fill these positions. Wardens are elected to one-year terms with a maximum of three consecutive terms.

People will be elected to fill two new positions--Mission Program Leader and Parish Life Program Leader. The Mission Program leader is responsible for the health and growth of the outreach/partnership ministries of Grace Church. The Parish Life Program Leader is responsible for the health and growth of the Grace Church Congregation and its members. These are one-year terms with a limit of three consecutive terms.

For a fuller description of the responsibilities of the above offices,
here or email Ken Lyon at eGraceNotes@gracecollegehill.org.

Also to be elected are two Delegates to Diocesan Convention and two alternates.

A nomination committee (Roger Perna, Wanda Miller and Hawley Todd) is at work finding people to nominate for these positions. Let them know if you have people to suggest. You many also nominate people at the Annual Meeting.
Volunteer Wish List Number Three

Still looking for the volunteer opportunity that is fun? Perhaps helping out with the Community Dinner is what you are called to do.   We need people to:

  1. Prepare food for Grace-sponsored Community Dinners. You can learn and try out new and old recipes in a fun community atmosphere.
  2. Set up for the Community Dinner. Just come and help set up the tables and chairs and put the tablecloths on the table. Stay and enjoy a free meal and meet the guests who have come
  3. Serve the dinner to our guests. You can make a difference with a smile and a serving dish.
  4. After you have enjoyed the camaraderie of the evening and the guests have left, you and a few others can take down the table and chairs, put them away and wash up a few pots and pans. Remember: Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
  5. Be the host or hostess for an evening by greeting our guests as they arrive. A warm welcome goes a long way towards showing God's love. And it is so appreciated by all the guests.

If you can help with the community dinner, contact  JWhite (mizone@gmail.com, 513-532-9362).

And don't forget the other ways you can volunteer:

  • Help with Interfaith Hospitality Net as part of the set-up crew, host or hostess or playing with the kids. Contact J. White.
  • And if you want to use your design and sewing skills to make a frontal, a fair linen or window treatments for the great hall, contact Carol Lyon at spikelyon@gmail.com.
Thanks to Carol Lyon for this article.
For People Interested in Exploring Fresh Ways to Worship:
PLAY! Praising God in Life and Worship

a fresh expressions worship conference

February 28-March 1 at Christ Church Cathedral

PLAY is a gathering of people interested in exploring fresh ways to worship.  PLAY will offer ideas for fostering creativity, planning non-traditional worship, missional church planting, and how to gather community in new ways through radical hospitality and inspiring liturgy.

As part of the conference, Theodicy Jazz Collective from New York City will share their Canterbury Jazz Mass as well as Jazz Vespers on Friday evening.

The Rev. Bob Leopold, missioner and church planter of Southside Abbey in Chattanooga, TN and others will reflect on the balance between traditional structured liturgy and more Spirit led playful elements. Much like jazz itself, liturgy should be a combination of the culture and community out of which it comes.

If you are interested in learning more about fresh expressions, being part of some inspiring worship, or are just love jazz, you won't want to miss this gathering.  PLAY is for everyone, young and old, musicians and artists, lay and ordained, people who love liturgy and those who don't.  We invite you and members of your community to join us for this experience!

Altar Flowers

The altar flowers this week are given by Ken and Carol Lyon to glorify God and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of their wedding on February 1, 1964.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Virtually all the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.

  Thanks to ...

... Sam Spade for agreeing to take over the position of Chair for the Prayer Shawl Group.

... everyone who helped in any way with the Community Dinner from the Tuesday night food preparation, to set up, serving, visiting with attendees to clean up or any other way you might have offered assistance. Your help is appreciated.

... everyone who helped with the Parolee Day this last Thursday. A special thanks to Mary and Ruth who month after month work tirelessly to provide food for all of the parolees (as does Grace in the summer months when she is in Cincinnati).

... Hawley Todd for your contributions to Education for Ministry and for your ongoing and never failing support for EfM members.

... Ken Lyon for your assistance with some computer issues this past week as well as for the hard work you did to transition our office mailboxes to the new set of boxes.

... Wanda Miller, Roger Perna and David Mukasa for processing over 150 applications for the Sexton position.

... Candace Moxley and Carol Lyon for the work you have been doing training and volunteering in the office. You are both doing a great job!

... Madeena Nolan for the two beautiful prayer shawls you left in the office to donate to the Prayer Shawl Knitting group.

... Ruth Bertram and Roger Perna for the work you are doing to close out the 2013 financial records and start up the 2014 financial records.

... J White for recruiting Pastor and Ms. Hagans to help with Grace Church's last Interfaith Hospitality Network evening.

... Father Howard for donating a big jug of grape juice for the Community Dinners or Snack 'n Chat.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
