A spiritual home where all are welcome; a healing place in a broken world.

Praying for Grace During Lent

I have been asked to remind you of our Lenten initiative: "Pray for Grace." This prayer is for Grace Church; for God's direction and guidance as we continue to do His will.

I have not had an epiphany of any magnitude in my lifetime. I look forward to it.

Scripture says: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)   "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24)

All the world's religions ask men to pray, but it is only the Bible that requires men to believe when they pray.

Continue to pray for Grace Church and believe in an answer.

Thanks to Wanda Miller for sharing her story.

The Pray for Grace Committee asks everyone associated with Grace ask God for His direction for Grace Church, then quietly wait and listen for God's answers--and jot these down and place them in the purple shoe boxes provided for this purpose around the church.  As a reminder--there are Pray for Grace magnets and 3x5 cards next to the purple boxes. Take some home!

Prayer & Meditation Group Does Haikus

Ever wonder what the folks at the Friday morning Prayer & Meditation Group do?  Well, last Friday, each of us wrote an instant Haiku.  Carol Lyon helped us drop our inhibitions, and the group was pleasantly surprised with what we came up with.

Connections

Loving, healthy, strong.
Precious part of universe.
Promise of Spring now.
Mama

Smooth fresh protective
shade all natural.
This is a form of true love.
Dead Branch?

On lichen-ey stem
buds thrust through moldy bark.
It is not dead net!
Flowers

Pretty. Celebrate
an offer of love and color.
Brighten our lives now.

Each week, a member of the group leads us in some form of meditation and prayer. Join us at 11 am Friday and see!

Artwork Presented to Grace by Cincinnati Flow Arts and Drum Circle

The Cincinnati Flow Arts and Drum Circle Mt Echo Tribe has been meeting at Grace on the last Saturday of the month during the winter. March 29 was their last indoor meeting until next fall; they'll resume meeting in Mt. Echo Park in April.

This artwork, created
during several of the indoor meetings at Grace, was presented to Grace Church last Sunday with thanks for our willingness to host their meetings.

You can get an idea of what transpires at their meetings by looking at their photo albums here:  facebook.com/groups/CFADCT/photos.
Looking Forward to Holy Week

We're posting this information again this week, in case you missed it last week.

We'll be trying some new things this coming Holy Week.

On Palm Sunday, after the 10 am worship service, we'll be doing "Palms to Go," meaning we'll be passing out palms to people passing through the Hamilton-Belmont intersection.

On Maundy Thursday at 6:30 pm, we'll be having a commemoration of the Last Supper in a simple meal in the Small Assembly Room, catered by Susan Lehman and John Dalzell.

On Good Friday, we'll have two services:
  • Meditations on the Stations of the Cross from 11am to noon in the choir.
  • The Community Good Friday service will be held from 7 to 9 pm this year to allow working people to attend.  It'll be followed by a reception.
Altar Flowers

The flowers on the altar this Sunday are given in loving memory of my father, John W. Thayer, by John Thayer.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Virtually all the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.

 Thanks to ...

... everyone for their prayers for me and my family from Virginia Chapel.  We appreciate all your prayers and support during this difficult time and ask that you continue to pray for us.

... Rhonda Sharp for spending two hours on the phone with Duke Energy getting Duke to reverse a change to our energy supplier.  It seems that one of those alternative energy suppliers came to Grace Church, made their pitch to whomever was in the office, then "slammed" us, meaning that they told Duke that we had agreed to switch to them.  Imagine our surprise when we got a letter thanking us for switching!  Again, thanks to Rhonda for getting this straightened out.

... Candace Moxley for coming in to staple the Sunday bulletins this week.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
