Another Haiku

Last week, we featured some haikus that were written by members of the Friday morning Prayer and Meditation group.  Jackie Millay responded with a Haiku of her own.

Grace Makes CNKY Scene Magazine Cover

As you can see above, Grace Church provided the setting for the cover of the April issue of CNKY Scene Magazine. Editor Jen Short said she kept seeing our rainbow flag as she came up the hill, and thought that Grace would make a great background for the cover of an issue that would remind readers that there are churches that welcome people of all orientations.

Jen writes:

CNKY Scene Magazine wants to thank our hosts at Grace for allowing us to use your beautiful church in our April issue. On the cover, we featured a group of diverse, affirming pastors, reverends and church leaders. Having a church with a rainbow flag on the cover of a gay magazine is going to make people want to pick it up and read more!

In the cover story, "Welcoming Places of Worship in CNKY," we used interviews by these leaders and several others to discuss the issues of homosexuality and the church/synagogue. Our sincere hope is that our readers will understand that there are other views about what the Old and New Testaments really say about homosexuality, and that there are accepting places to worship and call home in our area. So many members of our community have been failed by their family or home church and could really use the support and total acceptance that a place like Grace has to offer.

CNKY Scene Magazine is dedicated to bringing Cincinnati and Northern KY the stories that matter most to the LGBT community, as well as featuring supportive businesses, events and organizations. We want to be a service and resource to our community.

Looking Forward to Holy Week

Holy Week at Grace will be different this year.

On Maundy Thursday at 6:30 pm, we'll be having a commemoration of the Last Supper in a simple meal in the Small Assembly Room, catered by Susan Lehman and John Dalzell.

On Good Friday, we'll have one service, Meditations on the Stations of the Cross from 11am to noon in the choir, led by members of the Prayer and Meditation group.

The Community Good Friday service will not be held this year.
Marie White "Standing up and Being Counted Among the Good Lord's Flock"

J White reports that her sister, Marie White, "is on the road to wholeness and independence thanks to your prayers, thoughts and positive energy!  Please continue to pray and witness how the Good Lord continues to work.  With thanks and much love from Marilyn Marie and J."

In related news, J White received a wonderful bright red prayer shawl at last week's Sunday worship service.

Altar Flowers

The flowers on the altar last Sunday were given in loving memory of his father, John W. Thayer, by John Thayer.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Virtually all the Sundays between new and December are available. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.

 Thanks to ...

... Anthony Canady, J White and Pauline (the dessert lady), who provided the great lunch at Snack 'n Chat last week. It included tacos with all homemade, fresh, fixings.

... Hawley Todd for leading the healing service last Wednesday and providing the liturgy, and to Bob Laake for leading the drumming.

... Wanda Miller for bringing lunch for the members of the Buildings and Grounds Committee at their meeting Friday.

... everyone for their prayers for me and my family from Virginia Chapel.  We appreciate all your prayers and support during this difficult time and ask that you continue to pray for us.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
