"Healing Graces"--a New Ministry at Grace

We have added another healing ministry at Grace Church that we're calling "Healing Graces." Healing Graces is located in room 15 in the hallway past the Small Assembly Room on the first floor. Currently, it is staffed Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm by Reiki Master Bill Tarter and Healing Touch student Candace Moxley.

Healing Graces is a loving space where we invite God's energy to promote healing. During this process the body relaxes, allowing all systems to shift towards balance. When the body receives healing energy this can allow unresolved issues, previous trauma, physical and emotional pain to be released, leaving the individual feeling refreshed with a peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.

Contact Candace Moxley (513-376-7044, candy.moxley@icloud.com) to make an appointment.

We are making the Healing Graces room available to all healers to help make this a community blessing. All modalities are welcome. For scheduling, contact Candace.

This ministry is free, but donations to Grace Church are always welcome.

Thanks to Candace Moxley for making this happen.

We need Grandmoms, Grampas & Nannys

We have had the wonderful experience of seeing parents with toddlers recently at our Sunday morning services. It would be nice if we could mobilize our resources to provide child care during the services. If we can recruit volunteers to take a turn watching these children, the parents could enjoy our worship service without having to supervise their child.

Please contact me (pernas2@zoomtown.com, 513-290-7309) if you think you would be able to volunteer your time to provide this needed service for the church. Hopefully, we can get enough volunteers so that each person would only have to serve once a month or less. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am sure we can count on each other to meet this need.

Sincerely, Roger Perna

"Pray for Grace" Finale Coming May 17

All members and friends of Grace are invited to meet on May 17 from 10 am to 1 pm to discern what's next for Grace.  Lisa Hughes, an experienced facilitator, has been engaged to help us.  Goodies will be served.

You can see all the prayer answers we've gotten so far here.  You can send any answers to your prayers for Grace that you haven't already shared to Carol Lyon at seniorwarden@gracecollegehill.org. Also, send any thoughts you have on how our prayers might be implemented.

Between now and May 17, the committees and teams at Grace church teams will review the answers pertinent to them, research the possibilities and make judgements about what should be next within their area. They will present their ideas at our Pray for Grace Finale.

Please plan to attend the May 17 meeting. Your input will make all the difference..
You Can Help Send Children to Procter Camp this Summer

Grace Church is again raising funds to send children from our congregation and from the College Hill community to Procter Summer Camp.  The camp is located at the Procter Center in London, Ohio, which is about 75 miles north of Cincinnati. The camping sessions are organized by the child's grade level and run from June 10 through July 26.

Procter Summer Camp gives each student a unique opportunity to take part in outdoor activities, worship, crafts, and other fun stuff in a faith based environment. You can learn about Procter Camp on the Diocesan web site. Last year we were able to send 5 children to camp.  Our goal this summer is to send at least 10 campers.  The cost of the camp is $260.00 per camper.

If you would like to contribute to our effort, please send or bring a check (payable to Grace Episcopal Church) to church, or contribute electronically at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml. Please write "Procter Camp" on the memo part of your check.  Thank you for your willingness to help out on this endeavor.

Thanks to Roger Perna for heading up this effort.
 Thanks to ...

... everyone who helped in any way with the Community Dinner and Prayer Offerings from the Tuesday night food preparation, to set up, serving, visiting with attendees, praying with people in the parlor, to clean up or any other way you might have offered assistance.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.

Help People Find Grace. If you are enrolled with Foursquare, this is a request that you visit Grace Church's Foursquare page at 4sq.com/9hd8R0 and "like" Grace Church. Also, if you are so inspired, leave a "tip" about Grace Church. Foursquare is one of those websites that provides people with information about good places to visit. Grace has a page there that is rather sparse. I'm in the process of providing pictures and other information for that page. You can help people find us.

Fierce Love

Charlie Parker forwarded the following article by Vince Amlin. We're including it here because we see "fierce love" as being the kind of love that God has for his whole creation, including each of us.
"Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame." - Song of Songs 8:6
Two months ago, my mom gave my dad one of her kidneys. It took a year to get through the transplant process: batteries of tests, both physical and psychological; days of hoop-jumping, bookended by months of waiting; and finally surgery, pain, nausea, and six weeks of recovery. That is fierce love.
I wish more couples would choose this verse from Song of Songs for their weddings rather than the more popular passage from I Corinthians (love is patient, love is kind, zzzzzzzz). For one thing, the woman speaking these death-defying words is talking to her lover, while Paul is talking to church members. Not very romantic.
More importantly, I've rarely met a love which isn't occasionally irritable or doesn't sometimes insist on its own way. Let alone one that bears, believes, hopes and endures ALL things. But fierce love? I see it all the time.
  • The recent widower mooning over his 60-year old wedding photo.
  • The young wife staying positive in the midst of a separation she didn't want.
  • The men who waited years to be allowed to adopt their son.
  • The partner who has become more caregiver than lover.
  • The couple staying home for the weekend to sit beside their dog in his final days.
Maybe you're looking for a love that is never envious, boastful, arrogant, or rude. I want a fierce love, a raging flame, strong as death.
Prayer:  Fierce lover, set me as a seal upon your heart. Light the unquenchable fire of love in me.
Vince Amlin is Associate Minister at the United Church of Gainesville, Florida.
