We Prayed for Grace--Now What?

See the answers that various members and friends shared here.

Then, send your thoughts on how our prayers might be answered to Carol Lyon at seniorwarden@gracecollegehill.org

This coming Saturday, May 17, the prayer answers and everyone's thoughts on what to do now will be shared at a congregational meeting from 10am to 1pm. Lisa Hughes, an experienced facilitator, has been engaged to help us discern our future.  Goodies will be served.

Please plan to attend the May 17 meeting. Your input will make all the difference.

Altar Flowers

Altar flowers last Sunday were given in loving memory of her parents, Carol and Martin Macht, by Anni Macht Gibson.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.
Filling Our Plastic Easter Eggs With Signs of New Life

On Easter Sunday, worshipers at Grace got little plastic eggs, contributed by Susan Lehman. The eggs are hollow and hinged.  Susan challenged us to put a little note in our egg every time we saw some sign of new life. On Pentecost (June 8), we'll bring our (full) eggs to church and something very interesting will happen.

If you haven't yet gotten an egg, we have several in a bowl in the nave.  Come 'n get 'em!
Healing Services Coming Wednesday and Sunday

Wednesday of this week--as we do the second Wednesday of every month--Grace is the site of a Celebration of Wholeness and Healing that features a short homily by Hawley Todd, TSSF, followed by a variety of healing modalities accompanied by drumming led by Bob Laake.  In addition to traditional laying on of hands for healing, there will be practiioners of Reike and Healing Touch, among others.  The service begins at 7 pm and the last people usually leave about 10 pm. Come and participate as you are moved to do.

Next Sunday, Grace's 10am worship will consist of a more formal Celebration of Wholeness and Healing with Hawley Todd, TSSF, officiating.
 Thanks to ...

... Carol Lyon, our new Senior Warden, for all the work she has done taking over her position, most especially for the Pray for Grace campaign and for all of the positive growth that the comments we received can mean for Grace Church. Thanks also to everyone who has been involved and helped with this campaign with her and everyone who has contributed comments.

... Karla Vogt, a member of Grace for more than 50 years before her move to Wooster. She visited with Mary McLain and Grace Staples this past week and delivered four beautiful prayer shawls for our ministry. She looked great and said hello to all her old friends.

... Ken Lyon for making the office a healthier place to work by removing some water-stained and moldy.

... everyone who helped in any way with the Community Dinner and Prayer Offerings from the Tuesday night food preparation, to set up, serving, visiting with attendees, praying with people in the parlor, to clean up or any other way you might have offered assistance.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
The Grace Church Sesquicentennial Approaches

In the early months of 1866, a group of people initiated and carried through the process of forming a congregation under the aegis and authority of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.

Now we are approaching our 150th Birthday (Sesquicentennial), which will occur in 2016. Mission Council has decided to celebrate and commemorate this Birthday, especially in the light of our struggles and successes since 2006.

How we will celebrate remains to be decided.  It will not be only a one-day celebration, but occur at various times throughout 2016, especially in conjunction with other ongoing church programs. This announcement is our request for your opinions and
suggestions:

What would you like Grace Church to do?

Your thoughts, ideas and suggestions would be most welcome, and may be submitted, preferably in writing, to the Senior Warden. Mail them to the church, or email to  seniorwarden@gracecollegehill.org.

Once our celebratory program is established, we will call for volunteers to work at setting up the various events. The call will probably go out this coming autumn and continue into 2015.

Thanks to John Thayer for this article.

WiFi at Grace is Enhanced. We've installed a new WiFi system that should prove to be easier to use and to offer stronger coverage in all parts of our building.  The new WiFi does not need a password, and it goes by the same network name everywhere in the building--gechurch. If you have previously connected to Grace's WiFi, you will probably have to reconnect.
See Hamilton County's services for job seekers first-hand

On Wednesday, May 14, j

oin Cincinnati's interfaith leaders for a field trip to Ohio Means Jobs (formerly SuperJobs) at 1916 Central Parkway in downtown Cincinnati. Using federal grants, this program hosts hiring events, provides up to $200 in bus or gas cards for newly-hired people, and grants for on-the-job training and vocational courses.

Employment is a top issue for the Metropolitan Area Religious Coalition of Cincinnati (MARCC) this year, so MARCC is holding its May delegates meeting at Ohio Means Jobs. Come at 11:30 to observe an open hiring session, then hear an overview of Ohio Means Jobs services by director Kevin Holt.

The event is free!  Bring a brown-bag lunch.  This is a great chance to learn not only about a valuable resource for employers and job-seekers, and also to see MARCC in action. MARCC was spearheaded by Diocese of Southern Ohio Bishop Blanchard in 1968 to unite Cincinnati's religious community to foster reconciliation and social justice.  For more information, visit www.marcconline.com and ohiomeansjobs.com/hamilton

Thanks to Grace Staples for sharing this article from Ariel Miller, diocesan representative to MARCC.

Presiding Bishop calls for prayer for South Sudan and Sudan

The situation in South Sudan continues to be extremely difficult, and news of it in North American media is minimal. Violence has been fomented and stirred by political leaders for their own ends. Although the mainstream media portrays the conflict as ethnic, its roots, as with any conflict, are varied and complicated. Regardless, there can never be a rationale for the suffering that has been wrought.

Our partners in South Sudan have suffered massive casualties. Their people have been murdered, raped, tortured, and burned out of their homes. Churches and entire villages have been destroyed. In spite of extensive displacement, Anglicans/Episcopalians and Lutherans continue to be active in relief and peace-making efforts through our partners in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan, and the Lutheran World Federation.

We urge you to join in prayer for the people of South Sudan and Sudan, for a lasting and meaningful peace, and for immediate aid and response to the needs of the myriad of displaced persons.

As we celebrate the feast of the Resurrection, we urge you to help make the risen body of Christ evident to those who labor through the valley of the shadow of death.

We need Grandmoms, Grampas & Nannys

We have had the wonderful experience of seeing parents with toddlers recently at our Sunday morning services. It would be nice if we could mobilize our resources to provide child care during the services. If we can recruit volunteers to take a turn watching these children, the parents could enjoy our worship service without having to supervise their child.

Please contact me (pernas2@zoomtown.com, 513-290-7309) if you think you would be able to volunteer your time to provide this needed service for the church. Hopefully, we can get enough volunteers so that each person would only have to serve once a month or less. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am sure we can count on each other to meet this need.

Sincerely, Roger Perna
You Can Help Send Children to Procter Camp this Summer

Grace Church is again raising funds to send children from our congregation and from the College Hill community to Procter Summer Camp.  The camp is located at the Procter Center in London, Ohio, which is about 75 miles north of Cincinnati. The camping sessions are organized by the child's grade level and run from June 10 through July 26.

Procter Summer Camp gives each student a unique opportunity to take part in outdoor activities, worship, crafts, and other fun stuff in a faith based environment. You can learn about Procter Camp on the Diocesan web site. Last year we were able to send 5 children to camp.  Our goal this summer is to send at least 10 campers.  The cost of the camp is $260.00 per camper.

If you would like to contribute to our effort, please send or bring a check (payable to Grace Episcopal Church) to church, or contribute electronically at gracecollegehill.org/payments.shtml. Please write "Procter Camp" on the memo part of your check.  Thank you for your willingness to help out on this endeavor.

Thanks to Roger Perna for heading up this effort.
