Gift Picture from the Flow Tribe Featured During Easter Season

Starting with Easter and continuing through the Easter season, the above picture, a gift of the Cincinnati Flow Arts and Drum Circle Mt Echo Tribe, has been featured in front of our communion table. Readers ofthe eGraceNotes version of this newsletter can see a larger version of the picture by clicking on the above picture.

The painting was created by the Tribe during their winter meetings at Grace, and was given in thanks for their warm welcome here.

Kimberly Spivey describes the Tribe as follows:
CFADCT is a group of people who started gathering together in the summer of 2014 for the simple purpose of expressing joy in community. Ages range from tiny babies to wise grandmas. We have a free community yoga class to start and then many drummers come. People bring many different instruments to play. Some people hula hoop, spin poi or other flow props, or just dance! Everyone is encouraged to express and just be their true Divine selves with no judgement.
Thanks to our art therapist, Meghan Havlin, we have started community art projects where everyone paints on the canvas. There is no one artist, it's all of us. So what you are seeing in the canvas that we gave to you is a visual expression of the freedom, love and gratitude that we feel when we come together. We create a painting at each event and then raffle it off at the next one.
We ask for donations for the Drop Inn Center and Grace in exchange for a raffle ticket. Each winner is so special because it is always so obvious that they are the one who needs the painting in their life for whatever reason. The whole thing is quite magical.
We are so appreciative to the community of Grace for keeping us safe and warm in the winter and hope that some of you will join us at Mt Echo park the last Tuesdays of the month at 6 for yoga and at 7 for drumming. Feel free to just bring a blanket and enjoy the vibrations or join in with a dance, drum and paintbrush!
Much love to all of you!

Healing Graces Room Up & Running, Getting a Paint Job

The Healing Graces room has been serving people every Tuesday evening for several weeks now.  And now the room is getting a paint job, too.  Pictured is Reike Master Bill Tarter giving the room a fresh coat of paint.

A logo has been developed as well.  This picture is a little small to see the words, but you can click on it to see more detail.

Candace Moxley and Bill Tarter describe Healing Graces as "a loving space where we invite God's energy to promote healing. During this process the body relaxes, allowing all systems to shift towards balance. All are welcome. Also, the Healing Graces room is available to all healers to help make this a community blessing."

Contact Candy Moxley (candy.moxley@yahoo.com, 513-376-7044) for more information or to schedule a session.
Pray for Grace Finale:
Direction Confirmed, Tasks Prioritized, Volunteers Committed

Thirteen members and friends of Grace met Saturday to discern God's direction for Grace, to identify what needs to be done and to take responsibility for moving Grace forward. Led by facilitator Lisa Hughes, the group accomplished a lot in just three hours.

The group considered a number of possible futures for Grace. Options included

  • abandoning the building and worshiping in various community locations,
  • turning everything over to the Diocese to run as a community center,
  • forming a separate corporation that all users of the building would rent from including Grace Church,
  • returning to a more traditional clergy-led Episcopal Church model.

The group rejected these options, concluding that what Grace is called to do is to make a success of the current Common Ministry model in support of a Center of Spirituality and Healing in collaboration with multiple partners.

That decided, the group then turned its attention to listing and prioritizing what it would take to make this model successful.  We'll report on the specifics next week.  In the meantime, suffice it to say that those present quickly signed up to take responsibility for virtually all of the tasks the group identified.

We Have Wardens?!?!

Those of us who have been around Episcopal Churches for a while forget how strange some of the words we use are to those who are new to us.  "Warden" is one of those words.  We're familiar with prison wardens and game wardens, but the general definition of "Warden" is simply a person who is in charge of or takes care of something

Episcopal Churches have two wardens, a senior warden and a junior warden, and they are the senior lay officers of the church.  In churches with a resident priest, the priest is often seen as primarily responsible for the program of the church while the wardens and vestry or mission council are responsible for providing the building and financial support. In the absence of a resident priest--such as at Grace Church--the wardens take on the responsibility, along with the Vestry or Mission Council, for managing all the local church's affairs.
Thanks to ...

... Candace Moxley for securing a $50 gift certificate and a reduced price from LaRosas for our Community Dinner.

... Carol Lyon for all of the work she did to prepare the material and the congregation for the Pray for Grace campaign meeting on Saturday.

... Hawley Todd for  planning for and leading the healing services this month. Thanks also to Bob Laake for leading drumming on Wednesday night and to all of the people who offered healing, received healing or just attended.

We received a thank-you note recently. It says:
Dear Church and staff members,
I just want to say "thanks" for all the wonderful meals that you have prepared for me and others. May God continue to bless everyone involved.
The fellowship with others have been very good and thanks for the Christian teaching.
You neighbors, Janice and Willhelmena.
Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
 Selected Short Subjects

Sunday Worship Moving as of June 1.This is

a heads-up on changes in our 10 am worship locations.

  • May services  will be in the nave, as usual.
  • On June 1, we'll move our 10 am worship the Great Hall, where we hope that the air conditioning will give us a more comfortable worship experience. We will return to the nave the Sunday after Labor Day.
  • June 8 is Pentecost, and your Worship Team is working on making this service special, as it has been in the past. If all goes as we're thinking, we'll be worshipping outside in the parking lot.   We're thinking that this will be an experience that you'll want to invite your friends and relatives to. More later..
Altar Flowers

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.

We need Grandmoms, Grampas & Nannys

We have had the wonderful experience of seeing parents with toddlers recently at our Sunday morning services. It would be nice if we could mobilize our resources to provide child care during the services. If we can recruit volunteers to take a turn watching these children, the parents could enjoy our worship service without having to supervise their child.

Please contact me (pernas2@zoomtown.com, 513-290-7309) if you think you would be able to volunteer your time to provide this needed service for the church. Hopefully, we can get enough volunteers so that each person would only have to serve once a month or less. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am sure we can count on each other to meet this need.

Sincerely, Roger Perna
