Grace Returned to the Nave Last Sunday with Bagpipe and Ice Cream

Bagpiping by Tommy Thompson in front of Grace Church last Sunday told everyone that Grace worship had returned to the nave.

At the end of the service, Mr. Thompson provided a rousing rendition of "Amazing Grace" as we trooped to the Small Assembly Room for a Snack 'n Chat Ice Cream Social. Yumm!

Native American Spirituality to be Explored at Our Cathedral

As a small congregation, we don't often have the opportunity to have well-known leaders come to inspire us here at Grace.  Happily, Christ Church Cathedral does provide us with opportunities to attend events that we can't sponsor on our own.

One such event is coming up October 3 thru 5 at our Cathedral.  At the Native American Weekend, Bishop Steven Charleston (Choctaw) will explore native American Spirituality and its relationship with Christianity.

Since Grace is a place of Spirituality and Healing this represents a chance for us to learn about the spirituality of the Native Peoples.  Let's get a group together to hear this well-known Native American.  Contact Carol Lyon (spikelyon@gmail.com, 513-919-0542) if you're interested in forming a group to attend all or part of this event.

Read more about it in the Cathedral's newsletter here.

Thanks to Carol Lyon for this article.

Crusade Coming, Hosted by Next Dimension Family Worship Center

St. Augustine Prayer Workshop at St. Andrew's, Fort Thomas

We received the following from St. Andrew's-Fort Thomas Rector Jeff Queen:

I'm sending this to Cincinnati area Episcopal Churches to invite you to a prayer workshop being hosted by my parish on the weekend of Sept. 26th and 27th. The workshop will focus on the use of the recently revised and republished "St. Augustine's Prayerbook," by Forward Movement Publications.  Dr. Derek Olsen, noted scholar and liturgical editor for the revision of the book, will be on hand to lead workshop participants through the history and formation of this classic devotional manual as well as provided guidance on how to use this rich resource in you every day life.  Cost for the workshop is $10, with each participant receiving a copy of the new "St. Augustine Prayerbook," with their registration for the event.  This workshop is appropriate for lay and clergy alike.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is located just minutes from downtown Cincinnati off I-471 and the Memorial Parkway exit (#4).

Read more about the workshop at

You can register on the web or you can call the the parish office at 859-441-1092.

Short Subjects

Mission Council has appointed Ken Lyon to be Grace Church Treasurer, with Ruth Bertram acting as assistant Treasurer.  Even in a small church, or maybe especially in a small church, managing finances is not really a one-person job.  With Ken's appointment as Treasurer, Judy Handy now becomes sole leader of the Worship Team

You can vote for your favorite original artwork that will be used for the 2014 Episcopal Church Christmas card. Forty-eight artists submitted 70 entries expressing a local understanding of God's incarnation for the celebration of Jesus' birth. Submissions and voting instructions are here. Voting is open until September 19. Winner will be announced on October 1.

Candace Moxley tells us that the Healing Graces Room is available to all healers for use, for pay or not.  Make arrangements for use of the room through Candy (candy.moxley@yahoo.com, 513-376-7044).

Thanks ...

... to everyone who contributed in last Sunday's Snack 'n Chat Ice Cream Social, and especially to Wanda Miller, Anthony Canady and J White for coming Satrurday to dip up the treats.  This was a good change of pace.

If you want to thank anyone in the congregation for something they did week (leading the meditation in the Friday Prayer and Meditation group, going above and beyond on a routine responsibility, donating food or cooking for the Community Dinner, etc.) then please send that thank you to Ken Lyon (eGraceNotes@gracecollegehill.org) or the office (office@gracecollegehill.org), so those people can get recognition in Grace Notes.

Even though everyone who does something special may not be recognized each week (although we do try), we are aware of how hard members of this congregation work together to keep this church going.  Most of the work done in this church is by volunteers, so thank you to every one in this congregation for keeping our dream of Grace Church alive by your consistent contributions.  None of us could do it without all of us working together.
Altar Flowers

Flowers last Sunday were given by John Thayer in loving memory of his sister, Christine, on the anniversary of her passing.

You can donate a bouquet of flowers on the altar on any Sunday in honor of or in memory of anyone. The suggested donation is only $35. Just sign on the flower sheet by the door or call the church office or email spikelyon@gmail.com or donate online at gracecollegehill.org.
